GIAC Stage 2 dyno graph - am I missing a few horses ?

UPDATE: After re-dynoing with Injen intake, I obtained an extra 11whp, making it a 74whp delta (graph below). 27 more to go...

Today I went to the dyno and did some runs. It's a Mustang dyno.

Mods:

- Stock airbox with Helene drop-in filter
- 2.5" catless downpipes
- Wagner intercooler

The outside temperature was about 3-4 degrees Celsius. Maximum boost was 15.7psi. The AFR after 3500RPM was between 11 and 10.7. The uncorrected power level was about 330whp (264whp stock). The corrected power level was 316whp (253whp stock).

I obtained a delta of 63whp. However, GIAC advertises a delta of 100whp. One question is, can a DCI and a removed secondary cat recover this difference ? I for one do not think so. But I installed the Injen intake after the dyno...I hope to re-dyno very soon to see if I get any additional power.

Feel free to comment...

DCI, 3" DP and ff exhaust will help.

Very nice power curve. So smooth.
But the torque curve is odd.

DCI will be the main contributor of an increase.
Remember that this is a load dyno though.

Because the numbers on the right of the graph aren't the same as the numbers on the left.

normal tq reading are gathered at 5250...right? I agree DCI will help a fair amount. ff exhaust will get you a couple hp, not much. I would get dci first.

I thought you had to have fully catless or high flow cat exhaust, also you should have a dci to get stage 2.

Well, I got the same numbers Stage 1, see sig. Custom FMIC, drop in filter, had full exhaust at the time...but that was only good for 10whp the FMIC and exhaust. Colder weather I think I can pull a 340-350whp now...of course it is 70F again today..so not going until it is like 40F next time!

I think GIAC says you need Dual Cone, or aftermarket intake, full exhaust and catless DPs along with FMIC to achieve that 100whp delta.

60whp/tq delta is pretty normal for Stage 1.

From my research, I got about 10whp more than the standard Stage 1. I hope the new Injen intake I have installed will bring me about 10 more, I will re-dyno very soon.

Seems to me like GIAC has to play with the maps a little more. Is 15.8 psi the norm?
For reference I picked up 100whp with a dci/meth/v4 boosting only 1 more psi. Yea the meth helped with timing, but I had zero mods, and it was done on a mustang dyno as well.

BINGO! You need full boltons for max gains on S2

I don't think so. I got a delta of almost precisely 100hp out of the stage 2, without stage 2 race and meth. The difference to the Evotech flash I had before (which was comparable to GIAC stage 1) was very noticeable.

I am going to dyno again tomorrow, this time with the Injen intake and a bit better gas (101RON instead of 99RON). Let's see if something changes. But I'm not holding my breath, to be honest. I will probably need to do something about my secondary cats and maybe try some 3" downpipes.

I am not sure how many people here dynoed on Mustang dyno.

There is a debate on whether or not 3" downpipes bring a few horses more than the 2.5" ones. Mr. 5's article on this seems very serious. I am curious if there is someone with 2.5" downpipes getting the 100whp extra advertised by GIAC ? I might have to throw out my homemade 2.5" ones in favor of 3" ones...

from stock tune with FMIC, AR catted DP, secondary cats in place and bastuck exhaust to GIAC stage 2 with FMIC, AR catted DP, CAI, catless MP and bastuck exhaust I gained 79 whp and 106 wtq

you definitely need full bolt ons to maximize the gains of S2

if not for already having FMIC, AR catted DP and bastuck exhaust on my stock tune dyno run I would definitely have the 100 whp gain from a purely stock baseline

Here is an excerpt from a previous post of mine

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=448249

"Baseline"
Stock ECU
Bolt on Power Mods: FMIC, DP, Exhaust

"Stage 1"
GIAC S1
Bolt on Power Mods: FMIC, DP, Exhaust
+ 40whp
+ 51wtq

"Stage 2"
GIAC S2
Bolt on Power Mods: FMIC, DP, Exhaust, CAI, MP
+ 39whp
+ 55wtq

Summary - GIAC S2 with the addition of CAI and MP added 79whp and 106wtq.

GIAC advertises 100whp between stock tune with full mods and Stage 2 with full mods. So you are still short of 20whp What dyno were you using ?

A few questions

Are you sure they gave you S2?

What do you mean by "homemade" 2.5 inch downpipes? Clarify what you did. Cat off cats welded peices in etc.....

So you guys are under the impression that a dci and exhaust is going to give him 30-40 whp?
I was under the impression that GIAC works off load targets and adjust boost to meet those targets.

Did anybody miss the fact that he is hitting 481 wtq? That is a crazy high number.
390wtq on the stock tune? Seems like this dyno is a little messed up to begin with.
