Mike, Does you-know-who count as number one or are we starting the count from There?

Tiger, I believe we are talking Quaife per VACs previous post and the discount he mentioned was in the neighborhood of $200

Quaife or OS and DTC ?

So i was woundering if installing a LSD in my D, it would not interfere with the stock E-lsd in our car. I believe that we could not get full protection of the DTC when for example here in Montreal in cold winter with icy roads and slush, driving on a highway in bad conditions when you want your DTC to work properly. Anyone could help me out figure a way of reprogramming the DTC like the M3 have ???

Will post a seperate thread just in case some people would like to know more just like me.

Installing a true LSD will not prohibit the function of e-LSD. In fact, if you are one of those worried about one-wheel no traction scenarios, the e-lsd actually helps an ATB work by providing a resistive force on the slipping wheel, which gets converted into a torque on the tractive wheel. This is the same as drag braking to get stuck from an ice or one-wheel situation.

Whether you need to reprogram the e-lsd to act more like an M3, I don't know if that would make an appreciable difference in street or track performance. I intend to run with DTC off anyway on the track (I have a Quaife on the way for my car).

Do you mean all nannies off? As in, hold DTC button down for 5 seconds or so to shut off all electronic traction control (DSC). I need to find a safe place to try this out after the Quaife is installed in a couple of weeks.

All nannies off would eliminate the e-LSD. If you wanted the e-LSD assist you would go to DTC mode (press button once).

I will likely shut off the stability control entirely for the track using the method you described. I wouldn't ever do that on the street though.

Question

Hey all, very interesting thread.

I'm also considering to get an LSD for my M135i (currently on order) and I was wondering what to get.

- I will use the car on the street 95% of the time, and an occasional track day.
- I don't want to spend time/money for maintenance on the LSD, or as little as possible
- I am hoping for some better sprint acceleration (from stand still, compared to the standard E-LSD)
- the ability to do an occasional power slide (maybe in the wet, maybe on a roundabout)
- drifting in the snow on an open parking lot
- Better acceleration out of slow/tight street corners would be a plus.

As from what I have understood from this thread, a Quaife should fit my needs ?

I welcome your remarks or opinions !
Thanks !

Quaife, imo. Its either quaife or giken, and giken does require more maintenance. Wavetrac imo is inherently noisy by design. No bueno for street.

I have wavetrac, and it makes absolutely no noise on the street. In terms of functionality, it's well above Quaife.

I believe this is incorrect, the e-LSD remains On with everything switched off on 08+ cars, BMW came to the obvious conclusion there is no real reason why anyone would want to disable the e-LSD on a 300 ft pound car with a open diff on the street.

The 135i was the first to get this and transferred over to the other cars that year.

For what it's worth if there was a group buy on Quaifes I'd finally pull the trigger...

I was there last week and met him in person. It seems to come down to how many people get past the talking about it stage and commit. Simple math for any business.

Mike is brutal at getting back to emails. I emailed him 4-5 weeks ago about buying Ground Control camber plates from VAC and heard nothing back. 2-3 days later I bought the Vorshlag camber plates elsewhere.

From my personal experience working with them over the past few months, regardless what their website says, it is best to get Steve or Mike on the phone.

No doubt. I'm not angry in the least and will continue to do business with Mike and VAC in the future. My job/routine is such where I can't be on the phone, mostly by choice. My e-mail addresses are linked to my phone so it's way easier for me to go that route.
