Help. Installed Cobb AP on my 2011 335is...now I cannot uninstall or change maps

I have a 2011 335is and I installed my AP tonight. I updated to the current firmware with 335is support and flashed the Sport map on my car. The install appeared to go smoothly. The car definitely has more power and is very driveable.

However, I now have a problem when I try to change maps or uninstall the AP. I get the "Accessport not installed on this vehicle" error when it checks the ECU.

I checked the contents of the AP with the manager and it looks like it saved my ECU configuration but it will not recognize my car now.

v1.6.5.0.2839 firmware
Map Stg1 Sport IKBOS IS v301
Error Message: Accessport not installed on this vehicle" 0 BMW_MSD81_0044CCOIKBOS_IS

How do I fix this?

Update: 11/14/11 - I received my updated AccessPORT with alpha firmware and instructions on uninstalling it from my car and subsequent steps on how to reinstall on my car. I followed the steps and it appears everything is working properly.

Did you unplug the device or turn the car off when you were loading maps? Sounds like it did not take and the map is really not loaded onto your car. Does it give you the option to re-install? How about recover (which is what it will do automatically if it fails to install properly).

Personally, I would call Cobb directly. Any other advise may cause issues.

The install went smoothly and the car is running the Stg1 Sport map. There is a noticable power gain. I'm going to call Cobb today to get their feedback.

Try reloading the map and see what it does.
Keep trying to go back to stock. And call up cobb.

It won't let me do anything at this point. Trying to switch maps or uninstalling (returning to stock) results in the same "Accessport not installed on this vehicle" error.

I talked to Cobb this morning and they want me to revert to the last non-beta firmware and try to connect to ECU. They didn't sound very optomistic but wanted me to try it. I had to run the beta-firmware to get the 335is maps to begin with.

did you update your AP after you installed it on your car? Also make sure that your FOB is in and your ignition is in the ON position, then plug your AP in and see if you can do change maps then.

No I did not update my AP after the installation. My FOB was in the ignition the entire time.

I've escalated the issue to COBB and they are working on a resolution. They said my issue was a bit odd but not the first time there has been issues certain models of BMW. COBB customer service has been great.

This is an issue we are aware of, and we are working hard to find a solution! I'll be sure to update this thread and our main AccessPORT thread once we have found a work around and a proper fix.

I also have a 335is and just ordered an AP. Should I be waiting for the fix before attempting my install?

Thanks.

i am kind of dissapointed; Cobb knows about it but still no info that potential buyers should be aware, i hope this is not the standard business practice they use.

Again nothing against Cobb great product but potential customers should know beforehand about that issue on the 335is especially if its known to them.

Ian - thanks for posting in this thread. I'm eagerly waiting to hear back from your team with a fix for this issue. Right now my car is running but my Accessport is rendered inoperable as it will not accept the beta firmware it was running and it will not communicate with my ECU.

Thanks for the great customer support!

If your are updating to the Beta Firmware before installation, you shouldn't have any issues.

You suggested yesterday that people not update their firmware.

At this time, I would recommend not updating your AccessPORT. Currently, there are no new releases that would affect the performance or safety of your vehicle of your vehicle, so beta updates are not needed. As always, if you have any questions, please send us a PM, email (tech@cobbtuning.com), or call (866-922-3059).

Sorry for the confusion! Updating a current AccessPORT that is installed on a vehicle could potentially cause this issue. If the AP is uninstalled, there shouldn't be any kind of issue.

I received an email from Cobb indicating there was a new beta firmware version available for me to try. I updated my AP without issues and now at the AP can communicate with my ECU. I was able to get into the Monitor menu and I was able to get into the Troubleshoot menu and reset the ECU. However, I am still getting the "Accessport not installed on this vehicle error".

I sent my feedback to Cobb and I'm waiting on the next step.

Fingers crossed they find a solution so I can change maps and uninstall before my first dealer service visit.

Update: 11/7/11

Cobb Tuning has been great working on a solution to this problem I'm having with the AP. I tried to use alpha firmware last week but it would not install on my AP so I had to ship it back to Cobb.

Their RMA system sent me an email indicating my AP was received so my fingers are crossed a solution is in my hands soon.

I received my updated AccessPORT with alpha firmware and instructions on uninstalling it from my car and subsequent steps on how to reinstall on my car. I followed the steps and it appears everything is working properly.

Cobb Tuning's cusomter service and RMA process was handled exceptionally well and I am pleased with the resolution. I'm glad everything is back in order and now I can focus on enjoying my new car for a few more weeks before the winter weather settles in.
