iShuffle question

Hi everyone,

I am new here but the forum has already been very helpful!

Got a question...I know IPODs can be connected through the AUX interface, but what about the iShuffle? Does anyone know how to connect this to the car? I'm guessing it's probably not worth it to get the IPOD install(USB connection?) on the car since it probably won't display any info that's on the shuffle anyways...

well, no, you shouldn´t really use the headphone jack. It´s amplified. Most people use the line level out for better sound.

Well the shuffle only has a headphone hole and a USB plug...can the line level out connect through the USB then?

do you have the shuffle dock?
and if so... does it have a headphone jack in the back as well as USB, because on the regular iPod docks, they have Line Out, or they used to... up to 3rd gen when they gave you a dock with your iPod....

OP is confused...the iDrive does not display any song info from any iPod.

The upcoming 6FL option will - hopefully. I see no reason why it shouldn't display the Shuffle's song list either. Nothing about the files on the shuffle are different. It;s just that the Shuffle has no display of its own.

BTW, JSpira, I beg to differ. Most people will be using the headphone jack with a 3.5mm stereo patch cord. iPods (at least in the US) are not sold with the docking station which allows the output to come from the bottom interface.

I bought a shuffle dock but all it is is an extension of the USB plug with no other ins & outs from it. Does anyone know if there is a way to connect through the USB to AUX? Otherwise it sounds like headphone jack is the way to go.

Hopefully not, since the sound from that is not intended for amplification.

That may be so but I'll wager 97.64% of users do it that way despite the cleaner output from the line-out port.

my first bump!

Does anyone know if there is a way to connect the shuffle USB plug to AUX? Otherwise it sounds like headphone jack is the way to go.

I must be the only person who owns a shuffle...but it is the bomb!

I would get an ipod but would be nervous leaving it in the car for the valet...

Easy answer. Belkin makes this:
Auto Kit for iPod w/ Dock Connector F8V7058-APL
The Auto Kit charges your iPod from your car's cigarette lighter and and provides an adjustable amplifier and 3.5mm audio-out jack.

Monster has someting similar.

I'm using the monster connector to the bottom interface line out. I think quite a few people here are going that route

An ipod at max volume is just about the same signal level as line-out.

The USB interface is not going to help. For Apple to maintain its DRM program, decoding has to happen IN the iPod, and an analog stream outputted.
