Question Symmetric Tire Recommendations?

I'm looking for a good tire that has symmetric treads so that I can swap them left/right to help with the life of the tire. I have a E90 with sport suspension and the tires wear mostly on the inside.

Anyone have any recommendations? I'm looking for an all-season that has comfort, low noise, and good tread life.

im looking for new tires. i have a 2006 330i with a sports suspension
car is all stock

it currently has 225/40 zr18 92y front
255/35 zr18 94y rear

they are ventus v12 evo that came with the car when i bought it. i dont use the car in the winter, but i do use the car when its cold outside. i would like a tire i can rotate side to side to help with wear.

quality is important over price. comfort is important since the roads
in NY suck really bad

the car came with run flats, but im against those, i have a spare in the trunk

Everything I can find in matching 235/40R18 and 265/35R18 are either directional or asymmetric. The asymmetric tires can be rotated from left to right, but the outside shoulder will remain facing outside.

what do you think would be better, it sounds like roating one side to the other
is not worth it? since the shoulder gets the same wear

then what directional would you recomend. i plan on keeping the car
and want a comfortable ride

If you remount a directional tire on the other wheel it would help with wear...

You would have to go with a directional symmetric tire. To "rotate" you would have to have the tires dismounted and remounted on the opposite side (aka "flipping" the tires).

I'm pretty sure that's exactly what he's looking for...hence the thread in question.

Typically when someone asks me for a symmetric tire, they mean a symmetric NON directional tire rather than a symmetric directional one.

Top choices for directional tires in that size with focus on ride and wear would be the Bridgestone Potenza RE970 A/S and Yokohama Avid Envigor.

I've run quite a few tires, and this is one trait I look for in them. Hankook Ventus V12 evo K110s, Falken FK452s, and Yokohama S.Drives are all directional and symmetrical. I have had the Hankooks and Falkens before on my own car.

The Hankooks were awesome, with the exception of the soft sidewalls. I got bubbles on two of mine, and ultimately changed brand and model tires because of this. Otherwise it's a great tire. I did not like my Falkens very much, since they were loud and didn't last very long. They did have stiff sidewalls though. The last choice, I never had the opportunity to try. When I was shopping for tires, the size I need at the time (245/35/18) was out of stock. These are directional, symmetrical, and have reinforced sidewalls. I've heard decent things about them.

I think you guys are mixed up..it doesn't matter if they are symmetric or not...he wants non directional tires so he can swap from side to side without dismounting tires. There are lots of those.

I most recently tried the Eagle F1 Asymetric2 from Tire rack because they were on sale last summer and they are awesome...asymmetric but non directional so you can rotate side to side.

The Potenza S-04 is on sale in the rear size but I am considering switching to all seasons to see if I can get better treadwear and the Eagle F1 asymmetric all season's are on sale too.

There are many others....good luck...

Rollo, glad to hear you liked the Eagle F1 Asymetric 2, I assume on a BMW? I had them on my previous car (Audi A4 1.9TDi 130 Sport) and thought they were great so am considering having them fitted to the E90 318d M Sport in place of the RFT's.

Actually, no, you are incorrect. If he wants to even out the wear on the inside of his tires, what good is to just move it to the same position, just on the opposite side of the car?

He needs a tire that he can REMOVE FROM THE RIM on the right side of the car and put on the left side of the car so that the tire will roll in the same direction. Now that the inside of the tire is facing out, it will wear more on the edge with more "meat" on it which is why a directional symmetric is being requested...

OP is looking for directional, symmetrical tires, as seen below.

You can still rotate directional and symmetrical tires, you just need to physically remove them from the wheel and remount them to the other side of the car to flip them.
