Anyone Use Energy Efficent Lighting In Their House?

do you really save $50+ on your electricity bill by switching over to these energy efficent bulbs? my family just switched ALL the bulbs in our house to these costing us about $200 total. we switch to http://www.nvisioncfl.com/products.aspx?CategoriesID=1

two things i noticed about these are 1. they go from dim to brighter in the first minute of turning on the switch and 2. some made a humming sound at first start and then it goes away.

anyone else make the switch? did you notice a decrease on your electric bill?

to save even more money we found a cheaper auto insurance (geico), got the package deal or internet, tv, and phone, and changed cell phone carriers (verizon--> all tell). the savings is ridiculous. a great start to saving money.

I don't know but I feel a little bit better having switched over

These things don't work so well on timers though.

I use them. My electricity bills are a lot lower now. The turning them on and waiting for them to warm up for a minute or so takes getting used to, but once they are on full, the light is incredible... Definitely worth it IMO..

in california its a law by some year we have to change all our bulbs to energy saving ones or something... learned that from a class... i forget the year but its a long time from now.

I believe the law applies to bulbs sold in stores, not the ones you already have in your house. Plus, they were supposedly making some much more efficient incandescent bulbs, that, while not as inexpensive to run as fluorescent, were getting a lot closer, and cost much less to produce (and had less harmful materials involved in the manufacturing process)

I have these "energy efficient" bulbs in my house and I think when I move out at the end of my lease I'll save everyone the hassle and just move straight into the insane asylum.

I switched and noticed a huge reduction in savings. The key is the put them in places that lights are on for a long duration. For me the kitchen lights and the lights on the outside of the house by the garage. When my wife and I go out on the weekends we leave a lamp or two on in the house so if we leave @ 8pm and come home @ 2pm it starts to add up quickly.

You made the correct choice.

I wont use the florescent ones anymore.. I came home one night turned on the light it blew out and I went to take a shower and started to smell burning plastic, sure enough the bulb was smoking and reeking of burning plastic. I ended up having to unscrew it with an oven mitt and pour water over it.

Soon we will have good LED lights that will put everything to shame.. We have them in flashlights that overpower standard bulbs and produce almost no heat and last a heck of a lot longer on batteries, were talking same 200lumen flashlights lasting 2 hours for an LED vs 20 mins for incandescent bulb. (200lumens is freaking bright if your wondering)

dont think so... the law in california is to change all bulbs to incandescent bulbs by 2014 or something.

you mean the other way around, no? Incandescents are the current, old fashioned bulbs.
