Rough startup, loss of power. What could it be?
Hello,
First off my car is a 2006 330i and my only mod is the autowerks tune. I got the tune about 6 months ago and the car has been running fine so im not sure if this has anything to do with it. Today when i tried to start the car i it cranked a bit longer than usual and once it fired up its as if it started choking. The rpms were going up and down and the car was shaking, to the point where it was about to shut off. It eventually started running smoothly but i noticed a loss of power when trying to accelerate a bit harder. Im not sure what the issue is. I have done all the maintenance including new spark plugs last year. Any thoughts?

Probably a misfire of some sort?
Have you had any ignition coils or spark plugs switched out recently? I had a big loss of power and a very bumpy acceleration when one of my ignition coils went out.

Thanks guys, i had my spark plugs replaced but that was over 6 months ago. I have no error/ warning messages, except for one of my light bulbs. This happened once a few weeks ago then it was fine, then again today, so it only happens occasionally.

Have you had the car scanned anyways? Sometimes an error won't trigger a SES light.

maybe sometimes one of your disa valves gets stuck? Kind of a guess but they dont throw codes, it might not happen all the time and that causes rough idle

If I were you, I would get the car scanned by someone who knows their way around these cars and has the proper software.
I had similar problems a few months back and I heard so many different things including that I need walnut shell blasting, it was the eccentric shaft, MAF sensor problem, and solenoids just to name some. You know what it was? A coil on its way out. Although thats what I had suspected originally, all this other stuff corrupted my virgin mind. Start simple, if you changed plugs 6 months ago I would change all the coils as well. Martin from MNC Performance (a master BMW tech) here in NYC diagnosed this problem in a matter of 30 seconds after hooking my car up and looking at some details about how the car was running due to the lack of codes being thrown. Good luck! |
