Cleaned my brake rotors today.

Finally had time to clean my rusted brake rotors.

I used 1 can of brake parts cleaner and 400 grit sand paper

Took me about 2 hours to do. Overall I love the result.

Should have cleaned the rims too. But oh well...

Looks good. That's a bit of an uphill battle to keep them looking nice, as rust never sleeps.

Should be rusted again tomorrow. You have to paint the hub if you want them to stay clean.

Wow good for you I could never have done it with sandpaper. Mine was such a pain to do and I used a wire drill bit to clean it and it was still pretty annoying

I cleaned mine too a few months ago. I also used a wire drill (much faster and easier than using sand paper I think) along with Loctite anti-rust solution. They came out pretty good.

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound (or, in this case, two hours) of cure. Use high temp primer, paint, or even just a thin coat of anti-seize on the hats. If you're in a corrosive area, maybe all three.

From the wear ridge I see in the pics, new rotors might not be far off anyways.

After cleaning them put on silver anti-seize paste, not only will they not rust again but when you pull the wheels off again they just slide off (they do not rust on to the rotor caps.)

I sanded down my rotors and calipers and painted them using this stuff. Came out absolutely mint and its holding up very well. Looks OEM straight off the showroom floor. I'll post a pic when I get a chance.
