ELV is Blocked
Hi all,
Something strange happeded this morning, was wondering if this has happened to any of you. I have comfort access. I pulled into a parking lot and got out of the car, touched the handle to lock, went to do some stuff. When I came back, I grabbed the handle to unlock and got in the car. I tried to start the engine but it wouldn't start. The display on the dash had a picture of a steering wheel with a lock. The iDrive screen said "ELV is blocked, turn steering wheel". So, I sat in the parking lot like an idiot turning the steering wheel without the engine running (vroom, vroom!). No success, I could not clear the message and could not start the car. I got out and locked the car, unlocked it and got in. The car seemed to have reset as it started right up. Strange. What is the ELV?

It seems like this problem is becoming common. I experienced a problem seems similar to yours. I tried what you tried, but I was not successful.
I only resolved it by sticking the keyfob into the slot... then the car started. The advice I received is that this problem is resolved by the latest software update. My car is currently in for the CIP 20 update. See the thread I started here: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6121 You can also check the following thread started by E90Fleet: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10397

Others have also written about this problem in Germany and in the states. I wonder what this is caused by...?

FYI (For Your Information):
ELV = Electronic Steering Lock (Elektronische Lenkradverriegelung) I added this to the list of abbreviations... http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...556#post145556 |

So this is a software problem? Not hardware?

I had the same problem in my car:
The quick solution is to stick the key into the slot and take it out while shimmying the steering wheel (in the same fashion you would in an older car when it was locked - short tugs in opposite direction) It's happened to me once in the 7 months I've been driving the car AND it apparently can be fixed by a software update (as mentioned in this thread) |
