Has anyone gone up against a 997S, say from a 40-140 MPH run on the freeway? How did you do? I'm finally at the point where I can afford a used '05/06 997S without robbing the baby's college fund. But then the left brain says why pay that much when you can get similar or better acceleration performance from a Proceded 335i? I've always admired the 911 and the 997S is a sweet car that I aspire to have someday though perhaps not just yet, especially if a 335i with Procede can offer similar acceleration yet more utility.

I had a 997 C2S 6-speed for a couple of months. The car stock makes about 300-310whp. It is a very quick car and can trap 112-113mph in the quarter mile. A well driven 997S should be slightly quicker than 335i with just Procede.

If you just want to go fast in a straight line, the 335i may be an option for you. If you want the twisties, The Porsche for sure.

You can easily make the 335 a track car....

uh I wouldn't count the 997 as having 4 seats. I mean yes *technically* it has 4 seats and I've heard of wives being put in the back but I wouldn't really recommend it.

Are we forgetting that the 997s is almost twice the price of a PROcede 335i? By next year I imagine that one could have one frighteningly fast 335 with <10K in mods. The 997-S is one amazing, purpose built car, but with such a disparity in price, I'd seriously think about other things I could do with $40K. If I really wanted a Porsche, I'd buy a low mileage 02-03 996 Turbo for ~60K (Shiv's 02 test mule was just over 50K with ~40K miles) and add the forthcoming 996-T PROcede for a whopping (estimated minimum) 510whp and not look back.... then I'd spend that last 20K on hookers and blow.

i doubt that 997 C2S is running like a 4.7ish 0-60 procede can easily do 4.5 or better if launched and driven properly

WTF r u talking about, C2S weighs 3200lbs thats only 350ish less than the 335, not 600. 335 procede= 350whp vs 997S= 300whp

335 shouldnt have any prob against a 997s

I come from a 996 and love my 335 e93. I have read all the magazines reviews, compared 0-60 miles times and 0-100 Km/h times of both the 335 and the 997 before deciding to change from Porsche to BMW.
In terms of pure acceleration, a proceded 335 will equal and maybe beat a 997. But a 997s will be ahead of probably 0.2 sec to 62 Mph. Although if you had a steptronic, the Porsche guy should better be very good at shifting.

Overall I do not regret my choice, my Bimmer is much better refined and better than my old porsche in Any area, save from standstill acceleration, but my Porsche was a 1999 model, I am sure they have improved from then.
In any case, Porsche makes an average of 25.000 US$ on any car they sell, BMW 2.500. One good reason to go for bimmer! for sure performance are very similar, comfort and technology is far more advanced on the BMW and unless you want to be looked at, the Porsche does not retain any other plus factor.

no matter how you cut it, a P-car is a P-car. granted i dropped a faster and modded S4 for the 335i, the only cars i would think about about droppin the 335 for is a P-car.

and i would take the advice of the one of the above posts. if you are going to get a used one, get an older turbo with low miles and in good shape. then there is no stopping.

Road and Track did 3.9 0-60 in a stock 997S. The base 997 still does 0-60 in well under 5.0 in some reviews. I know 0-60 doesnt mean anything but just wanted to point that out.

I think the 997S is a great car. And as said before if you just want a really fast car for the straights then the 335 is fine. In reality you dont need much better handling than the 335 for everyday spirited driving. If you are a track guy than a used Pcar is the way to go.

C2s is 3130 lbs if you get it with the correct tranny, 355hp

as posted above, the 911S has been tested by multiple mags in the high 3's to 60

Well, if anybody cares, at Famoso when we went a couple months ago, the black 997S that went with us, modded with only an intake, ran traps speeds of like 112 mph with an ET of 12.7 (I think)
My PROceded 335i ran 13.0 @ 107.6 up there...pretty bad conditions though (warm and newly repaved track didn't have the best of traction).
Even in the best of conditions and tracks a PROceded 335i traps around 109-110 mph.

They have lots of wheelhop with hard launches but with the rear engine, RWD configuration, they can out launch us and we might stick close, but they will be creeping away the whole time.
They are fast cars stock.

But you pay A LOT of money for that extra bit of oomph.
If the SMG didn't suck so bad, I'd say get an 06 M5 and have the best of both.
Or get a Cayman S and put a Supercharger on it.
Best handling Porsche and will fly then too!

Otherwise, get the 335i, put $10k in mods and have a car that will give the upcoming M3 all it can handle...and easily run with (or better than) the 997S.
