So... after that long read there were no direct comparison pics to see what's different between stock and "1,000hp" axles?

It's nice to get reviews on products, but some that sound *slightly* less like an advertisement might be nice They must have cut you quite the discount to be the prototype.. hehe.

***first off: great review boosted. we all owe you big time for your reviews!!!!*****

not to be a dick, but i hope these are better than the supposedly bulletproof shafts i got for my honda project a few years ago. they vibrated, broke and were never right. they look awesome and i know d.s.s has a great rep. unfortunately for me they didn't work out.

i do wish nothing but the best for all who try this.

+1. This is what I meant by my comment. I've been building turbo cars for 15+ years, and in my personal experience, the advertised whp capability of DSS axles is a joke. We regularly broke "1,000whp" axles on MR2's/Hondas/Miatas, with less than 600whp.

Put it this way... if we all wanted to find out what tires hooked the best at the dragstrip so we could get some good sixties, how seriously would you take the guy sponsored by Michelin who's out there saying, "I tried em, and they are no doubt the greatest thing since sliced bread!"

All I'm saying is you could word the review so it doesn't sound so obviously biased, especially since they haven't been tested yet (on a slick, at the track, with hard launches). Without a review on how they actually perform, at least throw in a comparison shot of how they compare physically.

This is CONSTRUCTIVE criticism... I'm only suggesting how to make the review better, not just hating.

Flame on.

I had to send my axles to them for the upgrade, so I couldn't sit the bars side by side, however I do have pictures of both sets in the review. I am not about to crack open the CV case to to take pictures of the race and cage as I don't want to try to reassemble it. This is no prototype as the parts were already in stock, but they just needed to verify things using our stock parts. BMW shares quite a bit of parts from the E36/E46/E9x.

I am not sure what you want from me? I really do not have to spend all my time writing these. I just figured it was a good item to write a review/DIY to write for the forums. Hmm.

I hear you. Sorry if I jumped the gun a bit, but DSS is no newcomer... you'll find lots of dissapointed stories around the tuner scene.

It was very nice of you to writeup the how-to on replacement. VERY USEFUL, THANK YOU.

As a "review" of the axles themselves, well, I'm interested to hear from you after you've been to the strip on some nasty tires, or well-prepared track. That is all.

Mike thank you for the kind words. I also know a number of people who are ready for this upgrade. The future continues to look brighter and brighter for our platform.

AltecBX, thanks for the compliments.

That is a great question and one I thought of when I was researching this. The XI and I both use the exact same rear half shafts according to realOEM.

chris b., I am glad the review offers some valuable info and I am glad you presented your experience in a nice way. LOL! I will push the car hard and we will know more. One thing to note is the E46 and E36 DSS half shafts have performed very well and the race/cage I believe is shared.

great review... as always...

will you ever track ur car? love to see what all these play in the playground... you've up and gone and done a lot of things that most e9x owners haven't done...

also what was the turnaround time if ordered? off-the-shelf-ready-to-go? days? weeks? months?

hun77777, thanks for the compliments on the review.

I have a few more items I want to upgrade on my car before the motor gets the full built. With that said, I will try to get some runs down under my belt in the future. The problem has been that my car is apart almost 90% of the time. LOL! All kiding aside, I feel a lot more comfortable with upgraded half shafts at the track with my power level than I did before.

FBIS, no matter what anyone else says, thank you again for a wonderful review, and for being such an absurdly valuable asset to the E9X-driving community. Having personally relied on your DIYs and your product reviews to make decisions on my own car, I think I speak on behalf of all of us when I say that your constant pushing of the boundaries and your documentation thereof is immensely helpful and irreplaceable. Bravo, and thanks again for an excellent review (what else is new!?), keep up the great work...now go cut some hot 60's!

DefactoM6, thank you for the very nice words of encouragement. Once the DIYs are written, the other enthusiasts will have access to them for years to come. I am glad that I can help move this platform toward a greater future.
