Question about lease return - Need advise on a few things...

Hey guys,

haven't been on in a while, but i thought of a few questions to ask the community...

Please keep in mind, this is my first leased car, before I always used to finance, so I am a bit new to this.... I have a 2011 335i xDrive E92 LCI

1. on my rear bumper, I have two parks from someone's screws from their license plate...how will the dealership react to this?

2. on the passenger side door, there is a small, but deep scratch, from someones purse or something like that. after parking in a parking lot at a store, I come back and notice it...how will the dealership react to this?

3. on the hood and front bumper, there are rock chips from highway driving....how will the dealership react to this?

4. I already replaced all 4 of my tires for winter tires and now I need to get all season tires again, my stock ones are dead...so what should I do at this point when returning the car back to the dealership? do I need to get the exact same 4 tires or just any tires will do? do they have to be runflats?

5. my car got broken into a few months back, no damage to the car besides a few scratches on the inside door panel right by the window, where I am assuming the perpetrator was leaning into the car....how will the dealership react to this?

Please advise on the 5 questions above so I know what needs to be done and/or how much money should I be looking forward to giving the dealer for all this crap...

You will get a plastic 'wheel' in the mail from BMW along with emails notifiying you about your upcoming lease end. You can go online to your BMW account and pull up lease end turn-in info. The wheel has rings to measure any scratches or dings and classify them as free(under 2 inches), small, or large.

1. Should be small enough to be free I'm guessing

2. If it's less than 2 inches long it should be ok. I had a few scratches. I just got some touch-up paint, dabbed with a toothpick to fill the scratch. Then after it dried for a bit, I smoothed it out by rubbing the crap out of it with Meguiars Scratch-X. Alpine white is easy to match with Duplicolor.

3. Should be considered normal wear and tear as long as it doesn't look like someone took birdshot to your car.

4. Should be comparable tires to what it came with, i.e. runflats and sizes. I bought 4 used runflats off of ebay for around $400 with free shipping. Just make sure you have 4/32nds left.

5. Not sure.

Don't let the dealer charge you for anything. Have it taken care of elsewhere if at all possible.
Hope this helps. Just turned mine in last week. I was sweating it but turned out fine.

Are you planning to release another car through BMW? I work at a dealership.. If you lease again they are much much more forgiving on any damages.

I'm rockin' a new 335is now! Payment is $20 less per month than what I was paying on my 2011 335i E90 and it has the N54. I may have a very hard time turning this one in.

1. on my rear bumper, I have two parks from someone's screws from their license plate...how will the dealership react to this?

If you are not replacing the BMW, and simply turning it in, the dealer and or BMW will hit you for this.

2. on the passenger side door, there is a small, but deep scratch, from someones purse or something like that. after parking in a parking lot at a store, I come back and notice it...how will the dealership react to this?

Will be charged.

3. on the hood and front bumper, there are rock chips from highway driving....how will the dealership react to this?

Rock chips are okay depending on the number and depth.

4. I already replaced all 4 of my tires for winter tires and now I need to get all season tires again, my stock ones are dead...so what should I do at this point when returning the car back to the dealership? do I need to get the exact same 4 tires or just any tires will do? do they have to be runflats?

Expect to be hit for 4 tires if they aren't run-flats or BMW approved. then again, it also depends on the dealership.

5. my car got broken into a few months back, no damage to the car besides a few scratches on the inside door panel right by the window, where I am assuming the perpetrator was leaning into the car....how will the dealership react to this?

Should not be an issue.

I would recommend a pre-inspection at your dealership to see the costs associated with the damage You can always get it done elsewhere then return it.

$200 a month!!?? Is that difference because you now work at a dealership, much better negotiation skills or what? If I may ask, of course.

No secret. $580 a month MSRP 60095. I had 2 E90s but I couldn't pass up the chance to custom order a IS. F30 doesn't do it for me and the new M won't be here for at least a year. Wife has a new Touareg. That has plenty of room for us and in Executive trim, it's pretty damn nice.

What about curb rash on the stock rims....how does the dealer react to that?

I had light rash on 3 wheels. This was the part I was sweating because it wasn't really addressed in any of the BMW lease turn-in video clips. They didn't say a word about it. But as Sara504 pointed out, they may be a little bit more forgiving when you're there to pickup your new ride. I turned mine in on the Move Ahead program so I was able to skip the independent inspection. And since I leased the turn-in from another dealer, they aren't required to purchase it either. I guess from what the SM told me, they can keep it or let BMW deal with it.

Did you buy the wheel and tire warranty when you purchased the car? If you did, then dont worry about it. If there is curb rash they charge.. Its usually $100 per wheel
