The valve stems should be metal rather than plastic.

Canadian spec'd cars use the grey plastic valve stems, no tpms modules are installed. The FTM (flat tire monitoring) is done by abs wheel speed sensors.

Great, I swap out for a set of AC Schnitzer and now my tire warning light is on on the dash So even with rubber valve, I still have TPMS? Is there a way to code it inactive (ignore it)?

hit the reset button twice: first time to choose it, second time, hold it for a few seconds until it says tire reset with a check box. Then, drive on, which will reset the settings. I have the same FTM system, even though my model year is 2007, because it was built in 10/06. I have no navi...if you have navigation, you could reset through it.

On 06 models there are no TPMS sensors that you need to use. The system is "built-in", so to say, and it monitors the tire pressure internally using the amount of rotations of the tire, im guessing. Regardless you can reset it through the stalk.

So do I have to tell the system that I upgrade from 17" rim to 18" rim?

Well i would switch from 18 in set ups to 19 in set ups quite often and although the light came on once or twice, I don't think you need to. If it comes up, simple reset and you're good.
Don't quote me on this but im pretty sure the system might measure with respect to all the wheels and not just one. This would only make sense because tire pressure varies with weather. Lower on colder days higher on warmer days as well as higher after driving. As long as you are changing all of them and their tire pressures are consistent to compensate, you should be fine. |
