I installed my LSD at InterAuto in Chai Wan on my 335, they do a really good job and very thorough.

If you have not installed sway bars this would be a really good time to do it because they have to strip down the whole undercarriage to get to it. The job takes about a day.

Did you buy the LSD from the US? Which brand? What year and transmission is your 335?

Thanks!

I've had gd experiences with a couple shops. I can't recommend Zillion performance, and Robin Hood more

I planned to retrofit Bilstein B16 damper control, Eibach swaybar. For the LSD changeover, it should be figure out bolted or welted, headache?!

I know at least 2 person switch back to PSS10 after using B16, they say the damper control is not as good as they thought. For the LSD, if your 335 is pre-07 there's very high chance to be bolted, the post-07 are all welted as I know.

m3loop,

what and where are you getting for your LSD?
I've been thinking of getting one too, but mine is 2009 which is welded and require to buy the whole rear end. And that costs a lot.

Hey 88, can you provide me more information such as the name of LSD and total prices? What about the drive like us for late 08's 335i which is in Welded not Bolted, can your garage can do it? Thanks.

Renus,

The weld and bolt problem occurs when you install the LSD into the original diff hub. Like you said, the newer versions of the 335 have their diff welded together which makes it almost impossible to replace. The good news is there are workshops in the UK who sells the complete unit with the LSD already installed. All you have to do is remove your diff, install the new one and send your diff back to the workshop in the UK. In total I think I paid US2300 for the LSD, freight, etc.

I know I haven't explained it really well so if you want you contact the people who I bought my LSD from and they will explain everything to you.

I got an offer from Monster before for my welded diff including Quaife LSD, if I can remember which is around HK$16,500 for all, is that fair?

I have a 135i manual, which came with welded ring gear. I picked the most expensive solution which is I got a complete final drive with 3.08 final gear from Harold of www.hpashop.com. I think your 335i came with bolted ring gear, but not sure. Why don't you drop Harold an email about your questions. FYI, the price of Quaife LSD only listed in Hpashop's webesite is USD1,305.

BTW my 135i with 3.08 final drive = freaking fast acceleration, specially with DTC completely off.

I am sure my drive is welded with no doubt, as you said, you have changed your gearset to 3.08, am I right? So, once you bought your LSD from Harold in US$1,305, how much to send it to HK? And how much for the installation fees from HK garage? Again, any software upgrade required for new gearset?

If you have welded ring gear then you can't just buy the LSD alone. You need some special shop capable to take the welded ring gear out and installed the LSD, but frankly speaking, I don't trust any shops in HK, that is why I got the complete final drive unit. I left the hardest part to the specialist in USA.

I got my completely brand new final drive unit with 3.08 final driver and Quaife LSD installed from Harold for US$3605. I want to keep my OEM final drive, so if I sell my car I can swap back the oem one. If you return your core then you get US$1000 back, so the price is US$2605. It weights about 90lb, so it is not cheap to ship it. Since my company has a lot of business with DHL, so I can get a pretty good shipping rate from DHL. I'm sure you can get some discounts from most courier service, coz 90lb is not a small business.

The installation is pretty much straight forward and just bolt on. I only found one problem is that it seems my driveshaft is flange type, however the final drive is in nut type. I end up have to order another drive shaft from Harold plus 3 weeks delivery lead time. The installation fee is not much, coz I picked the most easiest solution, but I can't recall the cost. I've done it in a friend's garage in Tuen Mun. I'm not even bother to look at the invoice.

The LSD is purely mechanic device, it has nothing to do with the ECU, so you don't need any software upgrade.

One of the HK member in here his sister's E93 335i has been installed with Qauife LSD for her bolted drive, price is around HK$9,000 for everything, so far her car is fine. For welded drive, that garage is asking HK$16,500 for extra workmanship, I think this is reasonable.

HK$9000 for labor only, sounds too expensive, if it is with the LSD, sounds like a steal
Coz the LSD itself cost around HK$10k.
