Replace Brake Pads warning @ 700 miles
I washed the car on Saturday, and went for a 10 minute drive with a friend, everything is fine. The next time that I started the car, I got this "Brake Pads are worn, they need to be replaced @ BMW Center" message on the nav screen, and the red "brake" warning light is on in the gauge area.
Has this happened to anyone else? Is there a quick remedy for this? Or do I take the car to dealer? Or can I reset the warning light with one of those ODB-II tools? Not sure if I want to bring the car to the dealer (just got Procede installed) right now. thanks. |

There is no way that you need new brakes so I would try to reset it since you have the Procede installed.

There is no way in hell that you will need your brake pads replaced only after 700 miles, unless you slept on the track Anyways, you can always jack up your car, remove the wheels, and check the pads, just so you feel better.
I would do this first, before I take it to the dealer (Procede)

I just received an iDrive break pad service message for the front and rear pads. I only have 2,100 miles on the car and have not been driving it very hard. I assume it must be a sensor problem, or an adjustment issue. I made a service appointment for Tuesday. I will let you know what they find.

Mine went off at about 22K. Sensor needed to be replaced...still plenty of brake pads left.

Sounds like bad sensors. I got a random brake pad sensor light on my E46 once. Turns out rats at my new house ate through the brake sensor line. Probably not the same problem, but still get em checked out.

Took the car in for service and the service manager stated the following: 1. Front and rear break pads are fine
2. Incorrect service settings/intervals were entered into the service computer 3. Service computer was reprogrammed to reflect the correct service settings/intervals |

For those who are interested here is the techs summary of the issue:
"Faulty CBS data stored for break wear (stored 255% of pads left). Performed DIS test to find faults 5DE1 and 5DE0 (front and rear sensor plausibility). Removed both front and rear break pad sensors and ohmed each through module and sensor. Both were normal and equal. Found 255% of pad left through vehicle data correction. Corrected data to 100% after measuring pads. Cleared faults and test drove vehicle to verify repair" All is good with the car now. |

thanks, NC335i. Did they have to open up the ECU module (container next to passenger side firewall in the engine bay)? Or did they just did everything through the ODB-II port?
thanks, Fred |

I think they did everything through the ODB-II port. I don't see a reason why they would need to open up the ECU.
