Carbon Buildup and Tunes!
Interested to see how many of us have done this cleaning while running on tune. Good indicator for how many people say its necessary and mean it!

This doesn't apply to me but we should clarify:
Meth/Seafoam/additives dont count as decarbonation to valves. Only scrubbing/walnut blasting.

Well, I'm at 70k and pulling down 422whp with e85 and Meth on a Mustang Dyno which is nuts if not the stock turbo world record without fairy dust. I agree it could smooth out your idle, but we're not spraying fuel on them so they don't mess with fueling like they would with a fuel rail engine. Sure it would be nice to have nice looking intake valves, but unless your having issues don't waste your time or money. I'm going tomorrow to Horse Power Freaks to pull on their Dynojet. Lets see just how much my carbon coated intake valves really hurt my RWHP. Save your money and get a FFTEC Booster Fuel Pump. You'll need it if you want to run high % of Ethanol.

I'm at 86,000 km and I am going to do it for the first time in the next couple weeks.
I am bored and want to do it, my car still performs perfect. I have COBB tune. |

Im at 80,xxx miles with no mods. I have had all the boltons sitting in my garage for two years now. I have just done a dyno , then cleaned the valves. I will be back on the dyno with clean valves next week. I will try to post pics with the numbers.

did walnut shell blasting at around 50k miles, the valves are gross!
car was being on tune from 29k miles and after cleaning, idle is much smoother, revving smoother and when rpm climbs you can feel the car is also smoother.

I had it done around 53k miles and I was really surprised by how bad it was. I wasn't suffering from poor idle before so that didn't change at all, but the power transition definitely became smoother throughout the rev range.

Have been tuned for the past 40K, at 63K now, had them done around 55K and extremely happy I did. Power came on quicker and the idle was a little smoother, though I wasn't really having many issues with that.

I did mine at 80K, they were dirty. Before the cleaning the car didn't seem horrible, but after I did the all the cleaning it seemed smoother and idle was a bit more steady. It's kinda like getting a fresh coat of wax on your car, it may not look like it needs it, but you can almost allways tell after you are done that it is better.

carbon cleaning on the intake valves should be considered regular maintenance on the N54 motor.
