jb4 e85 questions

Im currently running jb4 g5 with dci on map 1. At first I thought it was plenty of power and now I want more. How does this who e85 thing work with the jb4. I did some research and read you have to use map5 with a small amount of e85 then log it, send it to terry/diagnose the log and go from there.

Am I okay using e85 on map 5 with just dci and jb4?
How much e85 to start?
Any precautions?

Any advice/input would be appreciated!

depending how your timing looks on map1, E85 can make considerably more power.

I would go for E30 (30% ethanol mix) and yes you can use map5

Personally, I did 30% E85 70% ACN 91.

You will see boost usually around 14-15 PSI after using this, and it definitely has a wow factor. At least it did for me since Im AWD. Definitely log after each fill up. Make sure when you go to the gas station that you have like 20 miles left until empty, this way is easiest so you dont have to calculate what you have in the tank, with what you need to fill up with. If your HPFP is on its way out (I notice you have an '07, so do I and mine is on its way out but wont throw codes at stock levels yet), then going E85 blend will most likely keep throwing limp mode (FML).

I like to fill up with straight 91 and Techron every 4-5 fill ups when using E85 to flush the system. Completely unnecessary some say, but I do it anyways because it makes me feel good haha.

Dont know if I forgot anything... Go to my profile and look up my threads and you will see a few E85 question threads

I only have Jb4 G5 ISO and DCI.
I have been running 30% e85 and 70% 91oct.
Sent logs to Terry and he said everything looked okay. He even said I could use a bit more if I wanted to.

Every car is different so don't assume your car would be fine though.

With 30% e85 I've been hitting 17psi using map 5.

are you guys running map5 and e85 mixtures with stock cats? Does any one know if running higher concentration of e85 will burn out the factory cats faster?

With downpipes, DCI and upgraded intercooler, I'm seeing 18.2 commanded on Map5. I run about a 30-40% mix of e85 to 93.

This is why I fill up with straight 91 every 4-5 tanks to help preserve things.

Doubt it helps, and I plan on going full catless in the future, but until then

I thought G5 boosted up to 18.5 while G4 was limited to 17?

Im liking the responses so far, very informative. What do you guys think is better meth or e85? Im a little scared about the whole e85 just because well it is e85 and our cars were not designed for it. Regardless I should log before running e85? To make sure things are in sync?

In sync?

It's easy, get E85, mash gas pedal =

And LOTS of people have been running 30-40% E85 for months now with no ill effects; LONG term as in years may prove to be another story.. but a risk I'm will ing to take personally. Besides, if it breaks... I"ll fix it .. no biggie.. nature of the beast anyway with cars... just my .02

Nothing to be scared about w/ meth if done right (e.g. don't use your windshield washer bottle, use a dedicated trunk tank).
