Hello from Portugal, i have just installed myself the Garmim 3790T bought from BMW GERMANY and mounted it on my E82 123D 09", i have gone to a BMW Dealer here in Portugal in order to code it, i thinks it needs the NAVP option installed in order for the sound to come out from the car speakers but they said they have never done that and that they have connect it to the computer and find no way to do that....i thing they just don´t know what they are doing... Can anyone give me some light about this? Many thanks!!!

Seems like more evidence from BMW that they are doing something with the iPhone station and the associated app: http://www.bmw.com/com/en/owners/bmw...w-link-faq.pdf
Just want to know when I can get one............. |

I think I am going to have to wait for this to come out.
Looks like a very good solution. No doubt BMW will charge a small fortune for fitting though. |

Just received a promo email from BMW offering their Garmin rebadged unit for £490 fitted, can't work out whether this is the Plus or the Pro Version.
http://www.bmw.co.uk/bmwuk/dealerlocator/?nav=1# Next dilema, are they pushing this to clear stocks before they launch the iPhone Station???? Wish they'd get on and bring out the iPhone Station - looks like a killer product - although with the iPhone 5 in the wings I guess they are waiting for that....... At this rate I'll be waiting until end of the year before I make a decision - becuase I know that what ever I do, the next day something better will be out! |

My computer wizard son converted my HTC HD2 from Windows Mobile (which really stifled the fast processor) to Android (Gingerbread) last week and I have to say the google Sat Nav is very good and every bit as good as Tom Tom in my hands and free !!!
I have pocketgpsworld's CamerAlert too which is also very good , especially at £20 per year for weekly updates. I dont understand why everyone wants integrated Sat Nav - they are generally very expensive and lag behind the latest technology. My car 2009 330D has it but I rarely use it. I tried to use it recently to get to the Ring but Nurburg is not recognised as a destination, FFS !!! Luckily I had Tom Tom on my phone.

The iPhone Station is out in Germany and the Link software is on the German App Store already too.
€199 for the station and the Link software is free but €49 if you want to add Euro sat nav to it. The car does need coding though, so another £100-120 I guess. But at least it integrates your phone, music and gives you bmw connect etc. and nav in one product, plus you take your phone when you leave the car, where as with the Garmin you it feels a chore to unclip it and hide it away. |

iPhone station coming soon I am told.
The £490 integrated navigation solution is the premium unit (the Pro), Plus is no longer being offered. Output via vehicle's speakers is available for a small additional charge on all vehicles built after 03/2007. Both are fantastic products, each with their own appeal. |

With the smartphone's doing all these things what's the point? Makes me laugh when I see People with sat nav's stuck right in the middle of the windscreen. .Doh!
Nokia N8 with satnav and placed in the "loose change" compartment. No wires..Simples |

Had a few Sat Nav's before. The map app on the N8 is the best i've had. Was on the dreaded M25 last week and it was warning me about the safety camera's (Piggy banks).
Then when I saw one that it didn't warn me about I looked in my rear view mirror it wasn't working, must know the disabled ones. |

If the bluetooth and navigation comes out of the vehicle speakers, this seems like the idea solution. |

Interesting thread, I see why BMW would have this product, nice easy money spinner for them as the satnav itself is inexpensive, however with changing technology I feel that this product would not be worthwhile, also if the plate holding the nav in place is not removable then it's an advert to have your car broken into. Whilst many of you do have dedicated sat nav units, I'm guessing you all probably have a smart phone too, and IMHO a navigation app on your phone is the way to go. All the newer phones have excellent processors allowing them to run the nav app together with all other features, in regards to battery drain, get a good quality car charger, not a cheap one off eBay, and you should get more charge than the app is using to navigate.
I currently use copilot 8 on my htc desire and it cost £27 and it is an app that is downloaded to the phones memory card and therefore does not use data allowance, the price includes unlimited points of interest and speed camera updates and so far has been excellent. It is simple and very effective to use. No I do not have any affiliation to alk technology who produce this app. I do not use a cradle as do not wish to advertise to any potential thieves, I merely attach the charger and sit the phone in landscape mode in front of the speedo, the app tells me my current speed, the speed limit of the road and sounds a warning when I am over and therefore the fact that the phone is in front of the speedo kinda doesn't matter. (only downside is that I glance down at speedo rather than the road, however I feel this is better than glancing to my left or right to look at a sat nav in it's cradle and therefore my peripheral vision of the road is impaired). A friend of mine who is an optician advised that it is better to glance down than left or right hence why the driver instrument panel is where it is. Anyway just a thought. |

If you have an empty cradle on the dash you've clearly take the phone away. The days of someone breaking in to a car because you may have a cradle on the dash somewhere have surely long gone with Sat Navs routinely available for <£100 now. Get a brodit proclip and cradle setup for the phone and run a Sat Nav application. I have an iPhone version of CoPilot which is pretty good (even if the user interface is a bit shit). I have also been very impressed with the free Sat Nav app called Navfree - visual presentation is not up to the standard of Copilot but functionally it is excellent - its integration with Google search is much better than Copilot. |

I think in regards to the cradle it's more the empty Tom Tom , garmin one etc that are the issue rather than phone ones as yes phone gets taken away but most leave sat navin glove box, under seat etc hence the car gets broken into.
