Our dealer told us the Blue tooth was overpriced and if we went for nav we possibly would get £1000 extra on trade in.

Generally I've found that extras don't add too much to the trade in value once the car gets to three years old.

This is why it can be much harder to sell a car without these options, who would want to buy a second hand car without nav when you can get the same car with nav for not much more.

Also, in 3 years time, nav will have permutated much further down the car market, so most cars will come with it. Unless that is, manafacturers continue with their current policy of using it as a cash cow. :mad:

Been thinking about the extra hump and whilst I can't justify spending 2k on the nav when a £150 garmin does a better job, Is it worth it for the extra control it gives you over the car etc? For those that have it - is it worth the dosh? I'd have no qualms about buying a 2nd hand car with no Nav - aftermarket does it better.

Paul, I like it because the whole car is on one control system with no aftermarket wires. The screen is great not just for nav but the visual PDC and entertainment screens too.

if you like music, you really should go for the Logic 7, I missed it and will regret it for 3 years!

It's so much better than the already not-so-bad hifi speaker system.

I was quoted 6-8 weeks for the 335d about a month ago. there are 335i engine shortages though apparantly.

I've ordered a 335d a couple of weeks ago and it will be here in just over a month but it was a dealer pre-order that was configured for me. He confirmed that 335i was going to be sep/oct which I wasn' tprepared to wait for.

I hope i dont have to worry here as i ordered mine about 3 weeks ago through Coast, dealer told me on the system that i should get it late May early June at latest and said that it would actually arrive ealier than that . Rang a couple of days ago and he said it aint changed and would be late May ..... the thing is he didnt sound so sure

I actually already own a palm pda with Tom Tom navigator, which I used in my 530d.

I got used to the idrive in the e60 and it seemed weird not to have it in the e90.

I like the radio station view and the phone integration is very slick and great for work.

The nav is not as flexible as tomtom, but it does the job and it NEVER loses contact with the satelite (which tomtom did a lot - in fact everytime I drove through central london)

I looked at a few second hand cars and nav definitely makes them more saleable - I think it adds about £1k to the used value, but more importantly I think it shifts the car faster which is attractive to a dealer at trade in.

It's stupidly overpriced, but to be honest I would probably get it again.

As to the 335d vs the 335i the first point has to be manual or auto.

The new auto is great, so you would have to be a bit pig headed to rule out the 335d on that basis. Unfortunately I am that pig headed.

The 335d is really the only sensible choice, especially as you have already been 'spoilt' by the diesel torque in your 320d.

Once again with me I was stupid enough not to make the sensible choice and I am very glad I did. I did a couple of race days last year and a manual box with a high revving petrol engine is simply a whole lot of fun. I know it's probably no quicker and my mpg is a disaster, but I don't really care.

335d = head choice

335i = heart choice.

If you let your heart rule your head you will have fun, but there will be consequences.

i chose 335i over 335d despite company car tax and fuel advantages of the diesel. Sometimes i cringe at the fuel consumption and wonder if i made the right choice. If you want a manual gearbox the choice is obvious, but i was so impressed with the auto in the335i i test drove that i plumped for it and totally love it - best of both worlds and far better than an smg m3. The diesel comes with an auto as std so why did i stll chose an i?
Well, i had lengthy test drives in both and with a petrol and auto you can double downshift and rev to 7000 ie DRIVE the car. With the high torque of the diesel you rarely need to downshift making the paddles almost redundent.
In the 335i you know when you are going fast by how you are driving it, and the sound it makes, the diesel is a different experience, even more of a licence loser as its performance is almost unnoticeable, somewhat surreal. The diesel is just as fast outside of track days so though it makes most sense in the uk it really depends on how you like to drive your cars.

i'll vouch for that... theres one thing having a "stealth" car that suprises other drivers in their subarus etc, but this thing is stealth also in the way it suprises the driver... its like "holy good god i'm doing a ton and i JUST pulled off the island!!!"

I think you are right .... but don't forget about the noise.

If you are sad enough to:

1. Deliberately blip the throttle when starting (like you used to have to do in the old days) even though it is completely unnecessary, just to hear the engine.

2. Wind down the windows when accelerating - expecially when you are in tunnels - so that the engine noise is louder

Then do not discount the 'i'. I feel a bit guilty about the fuel economy, but frankly it's worth it.

At the moment my ideal car would be a lotus exige. They don't make those with diesels (yet).

But if you go for the petrol don't try to race a diesel away from the lights.

no one also mentions that pain in the a$$ factor of the 335i which means filling your tank every 250 miles rather than the 335d which is top end 400 sub 500.

Does the diesel not make a nice sound when pushed ? I was torn between petrol and diesel.... the lack of wait time for the diesel won me over in the end, I hope I won't regret it as I am still young enough to be thrashing around !

Not as nice as the petrol. 6 cyl diesels do sound better than the 4 cyl ones though!
