Electric seats swap

Hi All,

I know this has (seemingly) been covered, but all threads I found did not cover my exact question.

I have power seats in my e90 like below

These are quite possibly the worst seats in the world.

I found some power sports seats

What I can't find an answer to is whether these sports seats will plug into the existing seats loom? I have found several variations of this question answered but not the ease of swapping power seats.

I'd love any help, thanks very much.

**EDIT sorry for image size. Had to grab a pic from Google.

I did the same thing in an e92. They bolted right up and plug worked for all my electronics, ie. power, memory, heat.

You may have to re-pin the plug if it doesnt work and it has to be an e90 seat. Cant go e90 -> e92

Brilliant. Thanks for confirming. The seats will be e90 -> e90 so all good.

How much did you pay for them?

Just curious as I also have the standard seats and hate them. No lumbar support and far too soft.

I haven't got them yet. I'm also in Sydney. They go for around 600 a pair here

Very easy swap. I had non-sports in my e92 and put m3 seats in. 4 bolts and 1 wire harness to connect. Be sure to disconnect battery before removing harness.

As others have said, it should plug right in *if* your old seats have same options as new seats, ie full power, lumbar, heat.

Make sure you unplug battery before you pull out your old seats!

When I added power/lumbar/heated seats to my power/lumbar car, a few wires were missing.

Also, 06-08 and 09-12 are different and are not compatible. ACtive head restraint is the difference.

They are absolutely compatible, all you need to do is code out the active head rests.

Yeah, not exactly plug and play. Just thought the OP would like to know about the impending SRS code.

To clarify: You can put seats from an 09-11 into an 06-08 car and just leave the headrest airbag unplugged. The 06-08 cars don't have have the active head restraint so the car won't look for that airbag. Coding will be necessary if one wants to put 06-08 seats into an 09-11 car.

This is correct. I put 2011 seats in a 2008 vehicle and all works fine without coding.

If you already have powered memory seats, it'll be much easier. Just plug them up and see what works. If something doesn't work, that means you're missing a power wire to your harness.

The biggest thing I would recommend is to check the new seat's belt tensioner if they're blown. If they're blown then it will be "shorter" than normal. Make sure they're not blown before you plug them in or you'll get airbag errors that will require INPA or the likes to clear.

If you're unsure, just swap the tensioners over from your old ones.

This is great info! I was wondering why I had to code out errors for my new seats and the tensioner was so far down, lol! Awesome. Simple fix.
