Springs

Have a 320d se on standard suspension. I have a set of m sport springs that i was going to fit though not sure if they will work or lower it enough. Should i just get a set of Eibachs and if so which ones. Dont want to make the ride too harsh. Opinions please. Thanks.

I have the standard bmw sport suspension fitted as an option from new to my 320d which sits about 15 to 20mm lower ( same as m-sport ) than se suspension. When I fitted an eibach pro-kit it lowered the front a further 10mm and the rear 5mm which would of been about 25mm lower than standard se.
But changed it back to standard as found the ride just a bit to hard, ok on motorways but back roads just a bit to much for me. However you may find it ok.

would simply changing se springs to msport springs (from same/similar size engine) make the ride height the same as an msport?

I'm not sure. The m sport springs I have came from a 320 so they should be right. I would hate to change them to find no difference. Hopefully someone can shed some light on this.

I have the Eibach Pro kit fitted and find it about the same ride as the M sport suspension.

Looks great too as the fronts on the M-Sport suspension look too high.

Go for it, I was really pleased with mine.

The M Sports will be a little lower and former than SE on a 320d so long as you have the correct coils.
Eibach are a coil less and so sit lower and a little firmer. I would fit those first.
It's the dampers that make the noticable difference to ride quality and 'hardness'.

One is very much lower than the other, depends how much of a drop you want. From what I can gather H&R springs are quite harsh.

All the best Brian.

Does anybody know, by lowering and with spacers, do you get rubbing?

I have 20mm of spacers on my rears and with 2 passengers + full trunk, car sits about 3 -4 cm lower and I do not get any rubbing.

If I go for Eibach springs Pro-Kit, what will be consequences?

Can one explain the theory of lowering? Are springs stiffer / rigid and smaller in size to make ride low without being being too low to have wheels in arches?
Or it it something else which I am missing here.

Thanks.
