thinking about trading in my E92

Im considering selling my e92 335i with fbo's and getting an older bmw like an e28 or e34 m5 or maybe a 635csi. They come with na i6 s38 motors that can make 400 and up na modded and some even make up to 800-900 turbo. You can pick one up for under 10k and then i would have the money left over to mod. Thoughts?

It would be awesome but would it be practical for a daily drive after all of it's age? By practicality I mean it could break down or not be as comfortable and luxurious as your 335. But that would be awesome to have one if you can keep it in shape.

yeah im thinking of fully building the motor possibly make like 450whp na with a stroker kit a good head and a standalone which i think would be doable with the budget from selling my car.

I would stick with what works tbh, if a NA engine suits your lifestyle better then go for that

Better now than later. Your car depreciates and the older ones get used and abused.

Just keep it and and build one.

E92 all the way for daily driver. Its much safer and much more comfortable. The older BMWs are nice but are lacking in today amenities. The older cars can be had for dirt cheap. You can save alot of money by doing it yourself and if you're impatient, just pay a shop to do it. I'm building one right now...

I got an E30 shell with a M30 motor from an 635i being built. Plan is to go single turbo once I get the swap done.

Total project costs so far:

E30 1986 4dr shell : $350
M30 motor: $150
M30 manual tranny: $200
Custom Motor mounts : $300
Torsen LSD: $250
Reworked Driveshaft : $350

I'm in the midst of putting it all together. I'm just missing a clutch / brake pedal assembly! (shell was an auto).

Things to buy for turbo down the road:
Turbo manifold : $800
Turbo : $500ish
Megasquirt : TBD

I'm hoping everything comes together under $5k. It'll be a pretty quick fun car. I wouldn't daily it because the e92 has me spoiled rotten with lumbar / heated seats / keyless / Sat Radio / bluetooth etc.

I think an e9 would be alot cooler project. Just make sure you have a solid reliable daily driver before you start tearing into a project and I think its a good idea.

i will have a dd and the m5 will be made into a beast much faster than probably every n54 car at the moment...

its not rare to see a 1000hp s38

head work, built motor, turbo kit, ecu can push 800hp pretty easily
