Injector 1 keeps dying.
Just wondering if anyone can shed any light on why my 330d engine keeps killing injector number one after 100 miles or so?
Each time a new injector has been installed the car seems fine, then after a while it develops a misfire. Upon removing the injector you can see it is completely coked up with black crap and so will not fire. this has happened 3 times now. the mating face for the injector seals have been checked. each time a new copper seal has been used and weve also tried a thicker copper seal as my mechanic seemed to think the seat may have been cut, and so diesel was leaking out through the seal. After using the thicker seal the car seemed to run great but bellowed out plumes of blue smoke and shortly after the engine started to misfire again. please note this is always on cylinder 1. All other injectors are fine. Anyone have any ideas? Would be much appreciated. cheers |

Probably down on compression on cylinder 1 has it been checked?
Sounds to me like it's not doing a complete burn? Could be compression or lack of air flow is the manifold carboned up? |

As above poor compression will overheat the tip, coke or melt it then injector fails.or the DME is outputting too many volts to that one injector causing the internals to fuse together.

Thanks for the replies guys. Im assuming a compression test has been done but I will double check.
How easy would it be for the mechanic to check the voltage from the DME? thanks |

Ok cheers mate.
Just been told that the voltage has already been checked and all ok. Will have to get it compression tested again. Cheers Steve |

So sent one of the dead injectors to be tested and came back that contamination killed it. Anybody have any clue as to what could cause this contamination?

Fuel pump internals breaking up and filling injectors with metal swarf.Has the car ever been mis-fuelled?

thing is all the other injectors are completely fine, if this was the case would it not affect all of them?
Never been misfueled, or at least never by me and I owned the car for 13 months before it went wrong. |

could it be oil fouling? if it compression checks OK then the only other possible culprit that would only affect cylinder 1 would be intake valve seals. Maybe it's time to break out the borescope and have a look inside the cylinder, also maybe pull the intake and look at the valves?

thanks for all the replies chaps theyre much appreciated.
No news on this for a while as I ran out of money to keep wasting trying to solve the problem. With regards to the fuel pump internals breaking up the the swarf blocking the injectors, this has got me wondering as I keep getting a fuel filter error code despite changing it twice. Could this be a side effect of this also?? cheers Steve |
