Coming up on oil change-what do you guys think-do it myself or take it in?

Hey guys. I am coming up in 3k miles on a oil change/service. Do they only do the oil change when it goes in. I really dont want to take everything off for just an oil change. I did my own at the middle 7500 mark but didnt know what I should do. If I dont go will they think it is odd and put up a red flag or something. I mean if all they do is an oil change then I would rather do it myself.
What do you guys think? It is a 07 with 27k miles and still under factory warranty.

If it's a scheduled oil change, you've technically already paid for it, so why pay again out of pocket?

I change my oil every 5k miles on the dot. At the 15k mark I take it in to the dealer for my freebie .

Exactly I dont know if its worth it just to save 50 bucks but I will if it will raise a red flag and cause them to wonder why I didnt bring it in or something. I mean on the 15k miles service is all they do change the oil or do they do other things as well?

If you don't get the BMW oil change, you'll need to keep proof of an approved oil change at the 15k interval or they'll void your warranty. A receipt from Valvoline would suffice, but how could you prove that you did it yourself?

Where did you get that information? Not true.

BMW says out of interval oil changes void the warranty. By out of interval they mean more than 15,000 miles between oil changes. That's why I said you'll need to keep proof. I have no idea if they've ever actually refused warranty service for that reason.

Well I mean I got the oil from BMW when I did my last change but all I have is that receipt for the oil and oil filter. No actual cross with my specific car. So you guys would take it all off and take it in to be oil changed?

Under warranty, I wouldn't put anything on my car that would void it. Saves you a lot of hassle and arguing at the dealer when you have to take it in for the servicing.

tough to continue to think that way when you see some of the performance gains people are getting with just the tunes. I am close to buying a tune, but like you, want to keep my warranty, and do not want to risk anything at all. I bought the car so anything I do now, will affect me later.
I don't agree with people hardcore tuning a leased car, but it is their right.

OP, what mods do you have? Depending what they are, and what dealer you go to, some are ok with bolt ons and leaving them on for service.

they know if you changed your own oil. the ring on the filter is different. I think the one from the oil-change kit is bronze, the one from the dealer is silver i believe. they wouldn't offer oil-change kits from tischer if changing your own oil voided the warranty. I changed my oil plenty of times on my older 328 between 7,500 intervals. The 335 I will change every 5k and I am confident it will not void the warranty. No need to keep proof.

I changed the oil and filter every 7k miles on my 2007 335i, saved the receipts and turned the car in when my lease was up. The car was then listed by the dealer as CPO status.

To me, I enjoy working on my cars and the fewer number of times I had to remove my mods the better!

Change it yourself ...
