e28 M5 cosmetic restoration

Hey all,

Just cataloging some work on a local 1988 e28 m5. Its been fully resprayed with 2 stage jet black several years ago. Interior is not in the best of shape and the owner plans on having the front seats redone.

Full 3 stage polish with Opticoat will be done here.

Spent a full 7 hours on the first stage.

1st degreased and cleaned the engine bay

before

this bucket was clear when I began....

condition of the paint on the hood....ready for some love

ouch

etching and lots of RIDS

all taped up

test section on hood

2 passes got me this, 2 more stages and it should end up a mirror.

video showing the difference vs what I started with.

Adams gorgeous s/c e39 M5 hanging out

trunk polished out.....damned good for 105 on purple wool.....killer combo for heavy correction

same treatment everywhere

corrected

as I left it tonight, ready for stage II

Saw this car over there on weds. I cant comprehend the amount of work it takes to do what sniz did to that thing. The paint really shows it though! Nice job!

thanks man, check this out, done polishing tonight, around 13 hours on the buffer on this car. Its 95% perfect. would take another 5-8 hours to get 99% perfect.

there is no LSP (wax/sealent/etc) on the paint, this is just pure paint shining.

polishing done......teaser vid as photobucket seems to be down.

ok guys back at it, finished the m5 last weekend just now getting to post, I was delayed by whats shown in the last photo .

out in the sun after stage 1.

after 105

after 106ff on white

After 85rd on black (stage 3)

reflection of Adams house

which is actually this photo flipped!

wheels are off

cleaning with Simple Green and Sonax

Engine bay is done prior to last wash before Opti-Coat

Car is totally done polishing, washed very carefully and then wiped down with ISP

Ready for the good stuff

Flashing off on the hood

on the doors

Done!

Hood outdoors just after Opti-coating, its still curing for sure

and the reason for my delay on these photos......she said yes

The car is almost as shiny as the ring. Congrats on both the restoration and the proposal

I hate seeing a 25 year old car with paint in better condition than my 3 year old car.
