I agree most contractors would not do that. Most contractors are transactional in they way they do business. At the level my colleagues and I play, the only way to be successful is by developing developing a strong relationship with the client and by crafting win-win solutions for them. It is for that reason I distinguish contractor from consultants.

That said, the are certainly plenty of situations where even consultants have no alternative but to approach a client's RFP from the transactional standpoint. Most often that is because clients are often more focused on the price of an engagement than on the merits of the work itself and because of their own hubris. Human nature is a very tough thing to overcome, especially for humans. Each of us suffers its negative affects to some degree or other.

nice fellow nj'er.. I used to think NJ was the shit because city and shore was so close. but whenever I drive back to NJ to visit my parents, it's so grimy and dirty there.

I miss NJ for a lot of things (mostly the food), though I'm from Blairstown where it's nice and rural.
