2006-02 DVD Sat Nav upgrade?
Hi All,
Been searching for ages but couldn't find the precise answers I need... I've just bought a 2006 E92 335i and it has a 2006-02 DVD. The Sat Nav only accepts letters when trying to input a postcode - there appears to be no way to enter digits 0-9 at all? I did find something somewhere stating that postcode support was accidentally dropped on this version? If this is true then what are my options for getting an upgrade? Do I need to buy a new DVD from BMW or are software upgrades free (this seems to be a fix rather an upgrade in this case). Will my 2006 iDrive accept the latest 2008/9 DVDs or are the newer discs only compatible with the newer iDrive systems? Thanks in advance! Feederz |

Your iDrive system can use the latest Nav discs, as long as they are the DVD Professional series (as opposed to DVD Business or DVD High). The latest one which has just been released is 2009.2
To upgrade from your 2006 disc, you will either have to go to a BMW dealer and purchase the latest 2009 disc, or perhaps you might be able to happen across a 2009.1 disc somewhere on this forum :

Thanks e92 Fan! I found a 2009-1 DVD to try in my 06 335i. I was previously using 2006-2 and couldn't input postcodes with numbers at all (which is all of them I think!).
The new disc allows for 5 character postcode input which is much better BUT I now have to wait for 20-30 seconds after selecting address input before I can begin to enter any address details which is very annoying. Is this normal? Does my idrive also need an upgrade - I read somewhere that there was a firmware upgrade that improves performance by reducing the number of colours used in the display? |

Well BMW have updated my software today and so now I have the light grey menu screen instead of the older brown one. I had a play on the way home and it does seem to have slightly less lag when giving it commands via the jog wheel.
HOWEVER - now the system has stopped accepting voice commands - I mean when I press the button there is no beep or icon displayed on the screen. I'm guessing they made a mistake in the coding. Does anybody know if this is a quick thing to put right - I'm hoping they might be able to put it right while I wait? |

It depends on your definition of "quick". For some folks, eight hours is quick. For others, that's an eternity. I think BMW's definition is somewhere between 8 hours and 8 days.

If they have to reload the computer it takes a while, sometimes overnight. I swear they're still using 300 baud modems to Germany.
