CCC TO CIC retrofit

Hi guys, I'm recently interested in retrofit my CCC nav to CIC, i've got 2008 E93 Conv, but it is very hard to find someone local in Melbourne provide the service, as far as I know there are some suppliers can provide with the whole package but the only problem is to find someone who can install it. Any ideas??

It should be pretty straight forward, I would have though Southern BM could have fitted and coded it for you.

What are the advantages of CCC over CIC? Is it really worth upgrading?

How much does it cost roughly?

CIC and DCT was a definite influencer in my decision to buy a 2009 (vs a 2008), however if I already had a <2009 I don't think I could justify spending the money to upgrade IDrive. Yes, it's a lot better, but not THAT much better (and I love gadgets/car electronics). I wouldn't be able to justify anything more than $1k at the most.

Advantages:
- Much faster
- Looks better
- Better physical controller
- Much better navigation
- Better USB/ipod integration
- Includes a HD for ripping music

I dont have the "online" or "apps" features, so I can't comment on that.

I am pretty sure it's not a small job. A forum member here in Australia has carried out this mod. I don't know if he is still around. Search for forum member "saferisk".

His car got the cover of Performance BMW magazine. It's a 2007 E92 335i with some "mild" mods. The article says he did the CCC to CIC conversion himself. If you can get a hold of him, he is probably the best guy to talk to. The article obviously does not mention his forum username, but it is his car. There are other threads on the build, but this is what I found first.

Thanks. I got a mid 2009 build car with CCC. I think they changed over about 2~3 months after my car was built. i don't think I'd bother to change. I use a 64GB USB drive with MP3's which works fine for my music needs. I don't like the navigation system in my car, but I suspect I'd still be disappointed with the CIC. I find its got really bad route planning and a general lack of features.

Are you sure that it's a 2009 build?

According to Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IDrive

Debuted in September 2008 with F01/F02 7-Series. CIC stands for Car Infotainment Computer and is manufactured by Becker, utilizing the QNX operating system. It is available on the following cars as an option;

Mine is June 2009 build E90. If I got the Professional option I think it would have been CIC, but mine is the business version. I got the updated controller buttons, but no HDD and it has the old style menus.
