Possible Feature or add-on to any Piggyback
I am relatively new to electronic tuning to our cars, but noticed that the stand alone DME's that Horespower Freaks utilize in their Turbo M3 kits have a built in "black box" that constantly loops data logs to assist in trouble shooting. I was wondering if there would be a way to either create an add on to JB4's and Procedes to do this or if this is something that Burger or Vishnu could build into their next piggy back. When my car misbehaves, I am generally just driving around and do not have a laptop data logging.
I think especially for our cars this would be a great feature. Perhaps there is solution that exists? Would love to get input from the community. Or maybe our DME's already do this, but we just need to interface them in a different way?

Hey Joe!
It sounds like you'd be interested in a CAN Logger. I'm not sure if there are any that interface specifically with the BMW CAN Bus system, but try a search on the net and see what you can come up with. Here are a few to check out. Try giving the companies a call during the week. All pulled from google. https://www.vector.com/vi_cancase_xl_log_en.html http://www.kvaser.com/en/products/can/data-logger.html http://sine.ni.com/nips/cds/view/p/lang/en/nid/209237 http://www.intproducts.com/unicanlogger.html Hopefully this thread will kick some interest on development. |

It definitely would be nice, it's one of the main reasons I switched to Cobb. I hated routing the damn wire through the DME area and to dash every time I removed it for service just to have to bring my laptop with me just to log.

Good idea. OP. SDcards, which are very small, can hold up to 18GB and cost like $20. Im sure we could create a 'blackbox' that gets the 30 seconds before/after a misfire/engine fault.

I think this would be a tremendous help in trouble shooting our finicky motors.

I mean, I don't think it would be super expensive to convert some type of stand alone device that records CAN Data to Flash Memory, which we can upload to the Procede software for visualization or Excel etc. Maybe I am wrong, but it would be cool to offer something like this or bundled with some future release of a Rev 4? or JB 5

I've suggested it multiple times with Terry with no answer.

Don't really think any of the current tunes would be capable of doing this. OP, look into a Pro EFI ECU -- Undercover Performance are tuning on that ECU specifically for the N54. Strong possibility that the EFI would be able to monitor/store data like the HPF AEM unit.

I think it would be great if we could just stick a flash drive into the USB cable and let it automatically log and fill up a 1g or 2g etc etc with .csv files
