Paul,
Mirrors can be done. However BMW has put some sort of restrictions on the roof to be closed by fob unless you go for a car with comfort access.

It should not void your warranty. As you are just activating an option which BMW has left out (for no reason).

Most of coders on this forum use BMW dealers level softwares, so there should not be a problem.

About price, I cannot comment on that as you are not in my region. But it should not cost you a lot.

New to the forums and looking for some advice

Hi I am picking up a 320D SE (2008) E90 with a professional radio in early next week and looking at options to get bluetooth and iPod connected and have the ability to use the steering wheel controls initial thoughts are a Dension Gateway 500S BT but my car doesn't have the CD changer in the boot and I am led to belive that I need to get it coded/registered to accept the Dension, The BMW dealer I am buying it from doesn't appear keen to help or understand what I want to do, another option is a Parrot kit. I am after a bit of advice from you and also any idea's on who to ask to code the car, I am based in Cambridge.

Regards
Paul

Hi Paul,
Most of 3 series come with CD prep which means you should have cable in the trunk to attach your kit, should you wish to. If you provide me last 7 digits of your VIN number, I can look into it.

Does you car come equiped with bluetooth?

If you are thinking of going for Dension Gateway kit, it will require coding. But whoever fits it, should code your car as well. It is usually included in the fitting price.

Dealer will only sell you their ipod kit (which is going to be useless with new iphone / ipod) and will code your car. You will be left out for Bluetooth option then.

Cannot comment on parrot kit, as I never used it.

HTHs.

Shaggy,
Few things coding Vs updating module.

1- Coding is a) safe b) fun c) instant results.

2- Updating modules a) Riskly b) boring c) cannot guarantee that updating module will sort out the issues.

Now I have updated some modules on my car with stable power supply to car and gone for latest vesion of those modules.

Not a problem if I am playing with my car but not with others.

Coding is completely safe and reversible, hence prefer that.

However if somebody has a problem with module (s), then I can have a look and update it, as in worst case that is already having issues and I cannot make it worst.

Hope it helps.

(P.S: Somebody may find your location bit offensive mate.)

@ makkan00

Hey Sam, what does 'coding a standard LCI professional HU to Hi-Fi' actually do, make it sound better? Do you have to have the Alpine upgrade installed first?

Cheers.

Cheers.
It changes the output of you headunit to flat clean signals.
So if you are upgrading sound system (Alpine kit or aftermarket), with coding head unit to hi-fi, your amplifier get cleans signals and thus cleans and less distorted sound output.

There is no point of having it done if one is not upgrading the sound system.

Hope that helps mate.

Hi makkan00

The last 7 digits on the vin are VJ16130 and its a 2008 320D with professional radio, the company that suggested the Dension can only fit it an not code it as they don't have the software? I think they usually pull out the cd changer which I don't have and replace with the dension which will do what I want it to do. I am led to believe that the steering wheel is bluetooth compatible as it has the buttons on and there are all the same but not activated?
I am also keen to look into the following mods, Chirp sound on locking / unlocking, digital speed on speedometer, Complete wiper cycle when turning off the car.
Is there anywhere that I can see a list of mods available for my car? I am new to this having only had the car 3 hours.

Many thanks
Paul

Paul,
You have CD prep package. They will fit it in your trunk or it can be fitted next to head unit (if there is no OEM Bluetooth and navigation in your car).
I thought about this kit, but later changed my mind so cannot comment on bluetooth communication.

Followings can be conded on your car:
-Dension Gateway / ipod kit coding
-Add Chirp sound on locking / unlocking
-Add Visual sign (signal light blinks one time) when you lock your car.
-Add High beam flashing with your security alarm
-Add digital speed on speedometer
-Fog light on with welcome light
-Wipers return to starting position if car is truned off
-Windows not interupted when doors are opened
-DRLs on all the time on pre-LCI car depending on your light module
-Windows switch working for one minute after switching off your car
-Central locking / unlocking button functional without key in ignition
- Add panic alarm on your remote
- Add speed warning on your speedometer if you are over 70MPH.

Hope that helps.

Hi Makkan00

Forgive me for sounding dumb but I am new to this, if it has cd prep package does this mean I don't need to code the car to accept the Dension or I do?

No oem bluetooth or navigation, the Dension appears like it will cover the phone and iPod elements but it's not cheap, if you have any suggestions I am all ears.

Is there anyway you can give me a rough idea of costs to code the Dension and
-Add Chirp sound on locking / unlocking
-Add High beam flashing with your security alarm
-Add digital speed on speedometer
-Fog light on with welcome light
-Wipers return to starting position if car is truned off
-Windows not interupted when doors are opened

CD prep means that you will have necessary wires in the trunk, should you wish to add CD changer / dension ipod kit.

You should participate in few threads to have 5+ posts and once you have done so then you need to wait for 24 hours to activate your personal messaging (PM) service.
Send me a PM and I will answer your further queries.
