Hmm sounds like the front screen seal Did you manage to fit it all OK or is it noticeably damaged from the rips?

How much was the rear moulding?

Sadly my car has had a summer vacation at advan performance, in an attempt to solve a driveline vibration issue after fitting the M3 driveline.

The M3 diff has a different flange, thus the 335i shaft is cut and shorted and the rear section of a m3 compatible shaft is cut and welded to the rear of the shaft. The driveline specialist who performed this work for advan attempted to rectify it but apparently didn't solve the issue with rebalancing (you would think since the bulk of the originals haft was used the centre bearing etc would be all OK)

The shaft was recently sent out to a 2nd driveline specialist for rebalancing and Pete was expecting it back last Friday, so hopefully this solves the issue...

In the meantime I was discussing the issue with our resident ISTA expert Vince, and he came across a few interesting discoveries with the M3 diff in the ISTA. Apparently the driveline is setup to quite fine tolerances and each diff is balanced after assembly (you'll see a little round recess drilled in the flange - this is the method of correction where material is removed from the point of imbalance to ensure its precisely balanced)

drilling of the flange to remove imbalance:

In addition to the machining of the diff flange for balancing correction, there is counterbalancing on the bolts where the driveshaft connects to the diff flange as required for fine corrections (i.e if they cant get the diff perfectly balanced at the factory the technician marks the diff as OK or requiring addition counterbalancing - this is determined by the coloured mark on the diff)

prior to 08/09 the counterbalancing was done with the use of washers on the marked hole )as indicated by the colour mark by the bmw factory tech) or after 08/09 special bolts once again as indicated by the colour marks. The diff I had was from a 2011 build M3 so if it required counterbalacing, it would require bolts.

bmw part #26112284154 black
bmw part #26112284153 green
black bolt is for blue marking
green is for yellow marking
if diff has white marking no counterbalance bolts required

special thanks to Twenza from the forums (he is a parts guru at Worthington BMW - Kariong nsw dealer and reccomend contacting him for parts you require) got me some prices for these bolts, he had some trouble as they weren't in the system as it seems no-one has ever ordered them and he discussed it with the workshop foreman who said they weren't aware of these counterbalance bolts..

They're a special order from Germany, and since I have no markings visible on my diff I would have to order both and attempt to find the orientation they should be mounted by installing driving the car and checking and removing and changing the position etc (not an easy task to do...)

I'm hoping the car doesn't need these bolts, as my diff has no marks so it will be a long process in attempting to locate the correct position on the flange which requires the counterbalance bolt...

In other news I decided to upgrade the wife's corolla to a VW Passat as its a much safer car for our bub and a lot roomier for all the baby stuff!

I spent a few months researching cars and passats and decided on a TDI as they have the best mix of performance and fuel economy. I've been quite happy with it, driving it on the highway it returned 4.6L/100kms and in the 7's around town. It has lovely soft nappa leather a good stereo oem satnav and a few cool optional extra's such as auto park assist 2 (my wife cant reverse park) and built in rear booster child seat

park assist 2.0

VW booster seats:

The seat base has a button where the seat base higes up and clips into a raised position, and there is a leather roller coaster ride type shoulder support.

The DSG is a huge improvement over the 09 jetta TDI I had but still somewhat frustrating at times being slow to respond when taking off....

Finally another new mod that's piling up among the parts in my garage awaiting for the cars return to install!

So a Sydney forum member Tom had advertised his M3 seats for sale for quite a while and I caved and decided to purchase them. The funny thing was I had considered buying them before Tom did back in 2103 (?) but hesitated as I wasnt 100% convinced on fox red.. Before I could mull it over Tom had snapped the seats up back then, and that sorta made me feel better as my oem dakota seats are in really good condition... Since then I've not seen a set pop up for sale only in the UK. I had considered importing a set but being bulky they would be expensive to ship and also quite fragile as the leather would no doubt get crushed or damaged during shipping... I've always loved the nvillo seats the leather is extremely soft, with much improved bolstering over the 335i seats and really gives the M3 cabin a top shelf german performance car ambience which reeks of quality and style!

So initially I was thinking I may dye the novillo fox red black with a leatherique dye kit which is approx $3-400

Decided that might be a tad risky and perhaps trade an existing M3 owner who has black for the fox red seats as it seems to be a popular colour as 90% of E92 M3's come with black..

Mulling it over I think the colour may grow on me, as I dont like it in the M3 as it looks too garish with the extended leather on the dash door trims etc etc but if I keep the door trims black and the centre console lid black it's not too garish at all:

OEM M3 with extended leather

retrofitted into a 335i with black door trims

So I'm thinking I may give the seats a really good deep clean and install them and see how they look!

These seats are also heated, whereas my oem seats weren't. In winter it's definately a nice feature, and according to Tom he just plug in the seat heater switch and the were PnP!

Got a price from twenza for a new switch (heated seats and PDC button) bit they were $437!! it seems it comes in as a kit and you build the switch to suit your cars options (i.e PDC, rear blind, auto stop/start etc)

So I decided to look for a used item and Vince found me a used item from Europe for $80 delivered

I also bought a replacement console from that M3 in QLD that everyone had been raping parts from! Since I bought my car it has had the top oft touch plastic layer all scuffed and flaked off the side of the console where the seat belt had rubbed up against it. Since I was much taller then the prior owner i have the seat extended against the stops, you can see these scuffs. So this fresher console will look much nicer and has the novillo leather console lid also

The car is turning into a M3 wannabe with the mirrors driveline, brakes, chassis components, rims, gauge cluster, trim, seats, gloss carbon roof etc I must admit! But hey the M3 was unobtainable for me going back 4 years ago when I bought my 335i!

The M3 bodykit components will complete the car in terms of aesthetics if I decide to go that way before upgrade the fuel system or clutch!

Very nice ride their for the family. That booster seat looks really good as well. Do you know if there a similar style for E9X?

Yeah it was a pretty nifty feature, and was one of the many reasons why I was chose to buy a passat

TBH I've not seen this on a BMW or another marque/model before the passat!

I had started to remove my Dakota leather seats and then decided whilst the front seats were out that I would replace the centre console as this would make things easier to access etc. whilst the front seats were out of the car. I had wear on the console from the previous owner around the handbrake lever from the seat belt etc rubbing on the console. Since I’m quite tall I have the seat reclined all the way back this exposes the areas of wear from the previous owner...

The centre console took some time to remove and was a tad fiddly but nothing overly difficult and the car has sat for close to 2 months being busy with family and small home renovations during my spare time.

Removal was pretty damn easy of the seats. Installing the back rests is kinda tricky and is best done with two people, if you're on your own like I was it took me a few hours....

I used this video as a guide albeit there is a difference between E90 and a E92

VTL's guides

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showpo...1&postcount=83
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showpo...3&postcount=94

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showpo...3&postcount=79
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showpo...5&postcount=76

And also the el president's sockets guide

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1226374

I have purchased a used console from a 2011 M3 which has the novillo leather armrest

Then I decided that whilst the console is out I should order a USB port and cable and run that now so when I go to install my NBT retrofit I won’t have to tear apart the centre console again…

NBT details in this thread if you’re interested:

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...&highlight=NBT

Otherwise watch this video:

I ordered the port from Europe (great seller at a great price! The parts were new genuine items and were at used prices) and it arrived within 2 weeks.

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/252028365...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT (ebay seller emtronika)

BMW part numbers 84109237653 (port) & 61119129360 (Cable) thanks to VTL

USB port installed in the M3 console (Sadly the seller of the used console had removed the USB port and cable)

I also noticed that there is a difference between the M3 console and my 335i item. The 335i has a cup holder cooler, whereas the M3 just has a small pocket

335i:

So I’m now motivated to finally install the lovely soft novillo leather M3 seats! Unfortunately this week and this weekend I’m busy….

I think LCI may have ditched the can cooler, my e90 2006 had the cooler, my 2011 e92 doesn't, its like the M3.

Or perhaps it was an option?

Yeah I had just assumed all E9X's had the cup holder in the console, having said that I only drink water in the car anyhow and by memory most water bottles are too tall to fit in it so I use the dash cupholders...

I'll have to look at blocking off the vent somehow so it doesn't blow wasted air into the console innards..

Yeah pretty sure its for soft drink cans only, wasted space for me i dont eat or drink in the car.

The square soft padded hole is much better for dropping keys into or my sunnies.

I can't wait to see the m3 seats when they are done. Going to look really nice in your car Shane

I think I might need an m3 centre console aswell mine has the same marks as yours and has too much vibration going through it for some reason. Maybe an lci console might fix that

Haha aint you a good boy! I always eat n snack in the 335i, as generally I do longer road trip drives in it, but there aint no sausage roll crumbs or coke getting spilled in my interior!

It's bugged me ever since I bought the car! I've had those interior resprayers that the caryards use and it doesn't work in the long run (ok for the short term to flip a car) but I think the best way is to get a later model LCI console which doesn't seem to be affected by the peeling like the pre LCI interiors are

So I finally installed the fox red M3 novillo interior on Saturday night!

I've been procrastinating for about 2 months whilst the car sat in the garage with the 335i interior stripped from the car... Being winter and having a busy social schedule (and a small baby) didnt leave much time for working on the BMW...

Gave it a quick wash and clean and snapped some phone pics:

The seller of the seats told me the drivers side seatbelt restraint needed to be swapped over, otherwise if I install the seat as is it will pop up with an airbag restraint system error.

I had assumed the old item would be missing and it would be a case of swapping over the 335i item onto the M3 seat. I've never heard of this system, but it was quite confusing at 1st to look at, and it looked like the wiring was incorporated into the yellow seat plug socket underneath the seat. Searched for a DIY, nothing in the bentley manual but I guess its not often a DIY mod/swap since bodyshops etc would be repairing these items after a car crash...

I had bought the seats about 6 months ago and the seller Tom being a stand up guy helped me out, along with Vince.

Tom said the cables from the seatbelt slot into the plug and the plugs pull apart like lego. When I looked at it again I could see the cables which I thought were cable tied to the seat frame actually werent cable ties they were ties that unclip from the seat base, and then the yellow plug splits apart like lego.

Remove one T50 bolt:

Signs of a discharged seatbealt restraint, look inside the cylinder and you'll see this:

The tip had white powder residue...

Plug splits apart from the side where the seatbelt restraint clips into, push up the two prongs:

It's like magic each system has its own shape so you can only reassemble in one way to avoid a mistake.

Then its a case of swapping over to my 335i restraint..

Since the item is a one use item I'm confused as to why the seller of the seats had the discharged seat put back on (its a throwaway) thats what had me confused initially, but a sure sign is the rubber section is all squished up and look inside the barrel of the restraint:

Discharged:

Cut off rubber boot

Obviously how the system works is in the occasion of the airbags deploying the restraint system fires and tensions the seatbelts to prevent whiplash for the occupant/s.

When I finally had the car reassembled I was half expecting an error to pop up, but all good. She fired up straight away (I had the battery D/C for the past few months) and she ran fine!

The heated seats seem to be working fine and shall be nice to use this time of year as in the past few weeks we've been getting a few 0 degree mornings!

I was also surprised how comfy the seats were, I was initially concerned the extra bolsters of the ///M seats would make it slightly squishy for a big unit like myself. But if anything its as easy to get in and out of as the 335i seats and more comfortable.

All in all I'm pretty happy with them hopefully I can sell my 335i interior now

Good job mate! I reckon few cosmetic upgrades on the exterior will make it look even hotter. Like a 1M front bar, m3 side skirts and an msport rear bar. Just a few suggestions i'm sure you've thought of already lol
