335xi Pre-Purchase Inspection help

Hey guys,

I'm looking at getting this 07 335xi from a member on here, it's located in PA. Great price, but I am somewhat skeptical .. I am new to the Bimmer scene and would like to request assistance. If anyone is free this week or knows of any decent PPI places around the Philly area please let me know!

Thanks in advance, cheers!

Here is the ad in case any of you are curious to see which one I'm interested in picking up.. http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=595034

+1

When I purchased my car from CT I had them bring it to the nearest BMW dealership for a PPI, they faxed me over the paperwork once they were finished. Looked it over and pulled the trigger.

You can have the owner bring it to the dealership and have the tech call you to pay for the PPI over the phone with a credit card. Thats what I did.

Be very careful. This will require two inspections - a mechanical one and a good bodyshop inspection.

Reconstructed title, 1 owner and his description of the accident don't add up. In addition, that night shot doesn't look like OE headlamps either.

$14k!! Is that how much these are worth now, or is that just because of the salvage title?

It's because it's rebuilt/salvage title.

I saw this car for sale not too long ago. It looks real suspect if you ask me. I have a feeling the work done to the car may be pretty shitty. Like another user said please have a body shop take a look as well.

Good Luck! And always remember you get what you pay for.... That car is worth over $21k if it did not have a salvage title.

Yeah, they're apparently adaptive headlights too according to his description. I just assumed that he had aftermarket HID's like 6000k instead of 4300k. I'm not sure is there any way to really check? I'm fairly new to this Bimmer scene.

I will take a look at it maybe Thursday after school or Friday, any particular areas I should pay special attention to?

Also, the seller told me that the only thing wrong mechanically is that the airbag light is on. He says the dealer just needs to reset the module, I'm not sure what he means by this, his English isn't that great so if someone could elaborate and explain to me if this is a simple fix or a pain in the ass. Thanks again for the support guys!

That sounds to me to be accident related. It could be as simple as resetting the light, or as complicated as buying a new seat or something else expensive.

I'm not sure, I've been talking to a few of my friends and they all advise on passing on it, even if it's a really really good deal.. It may be back to searching for another 335xi 6MT for me

Pass on it man. Not worth the hassle and the fact that there could be frame damage.

When it comes to cars..when a deal seems to be too good to be true..it usually is.

If you are really on a budget and dead set on a 335i you can find them for cheap with lemon titles, usually around 20-21k. A lot of cars were lemoned out of California because of Fuel Pump issues and found their way to lots around the country, I know I certainly considered it when I was looking.

If you can verify that the lemon title was given because of the fuel pump and you don't mind a low resale value then you can find yourself a pretty decent car for cheap.

Yeah, frame damage is what I'm afraid of too.

Besides you really can't put a price on the peace of mind of having a clean title car haha knowing there could be something that will go wrong with the car at any time is stressful.

Hey let's all hangout sometime, both of my closest friends drive e92 M3's, where are the meets usually around here?

Yeah, I've learned that lesson the hard way, bought a Volkswagen that was heavily modded, thinking I got a good deal. It had all sorts of problems!

The only reason I was dead set on getting a good deal is because it would nice to have extra money to do some mods. What I had in mind were performance mods first like JB4, exhaust, fmic, and possibly a suspension upgrade lol.

Take a look at it and have it inspected before you purchase it. The worst that can happen here is you don't like what you see and you don't purchase it. But def have it inspected by a body shop.

Again You get what you pay for.... If you buy a car a couple of thousand under its normal price thats fine. But if you buy this car for almost half of its normal price then you def are dealing with a shady shmuck

No, I decided I didn't want to drive 3.5 hours only to be disappointed, Lol. I'll just keep on looking for a clean title and pay that extra $$. Besides, what I really want is an 09+ LCI. It looks more aggressive IMO.

I'm in no rush to buy a car, just looking to upgrade. I currently drive an 06 slk350 black w/ red interior.

I'm just getting tired of driving automatic and the 7speed tip-tronic doesn't quite do it for me. I like the feeling of being able to rev-match and heel toe, I want to also get back into modding and twin turbos are always a nice place to start
