Just wanted to say thanks! I spent an hour trying to figure it out on my own. Five minutes after reading this everything was working great!

I had to hold the genie "series II" remote BEHIND the windshield as someone mentioned and then step 4 took no problem. Couldn't get it to grab the code from the front for the life of me, but behind took it first attempt. Thanks

This statement is so FALSE!!!!!!!!!

My wife programmed our dks remote operating a gate to homelink in her e90 07 335i. I just programmed it to my new project e60 08 550i msport! past cars that i programed are 05 clk55, 09 cls550 and 09 ctsv.

Hold the dks remote an inch in front of the red BMW assist thingy and the windshield run through 4-5 cycles on the dks remote while holing memory button down!

Is that paypal donation sent yet??

From what I recall, do step 2 and all three links will be reset, which means homelink to your garage will be disabled.

2011 335i and the Sommer Synoris 550 Garage Door Opener

HELP! 2011 335i with Sommer 550.

I managed to get past step 4 with the help of this thread but maybe also by blind luck because I could never repeat it. I was able to program button 1 by holding the edge of the transmitter right next to the back of the rear view mirror right smack center. To try and repeat it I programmed button 2 but could only do it by holding the edge of the transmitter this time ~1 inch from the back of the rear view mirror. I could not program button 3 regardless of angle or distance or location variation.

The kicker is, despite button 1 and 2 being ready to learn the rolling code (rapid blink when pressed), I just can't get past it. I hit the learn button on the GDO, and then hit button 1 - i see it registering on the GDO. But after 3, 4, 5 button presses (~2 seconds each, rapid blink then solid)... still no banana.

What's going on!?

RE: Step 4, if you're in the right spot it shouldn't take 10 seconds to pickup right? No need to hold it there for a minute?

RE: HomeLink sensor window - is it the white little square shown in this picture? Or the round plastic thing at the center bottom of the rear view mirror? Or elsewhere.

Just thought I'd share this in case anybody (including future me) encounters the same problem as above.

Solution:
1. Press all 3 buttons in the car until the light turns off
2. Press the learn button on the GDO
3. Press and hold down any button in the car

Done!

Thank god for Internet that's all I know. Manual was basically useless for this.

Got an old "clicker" I had programmed to my apartment garage and then used that for homelink, all while avoiding the 100 bucks for remote from complex.

Win.

Here is my contribution to you guys. I just wrote very detailed instructions for all the members who cannot work their homelink system. Hope this helps

Homelink System Installation

1. Park either inside the garage or have your car parked on driveway facing the garage as close as possible.

2. Press and hold the first and third button of the homelink buttons for approximately 20 seconds, until the red light starts blinking rapidly.

3. Press the button (1,2, or 3) you desire to have installed and hold it. The red light will be blinking slowly.

4. With the garage opener remote near the rear view mirror (1~4 inches near), press and hold the remote button while you are still holding the desired button on your homelink system. The red light will eventually blink rapidly. If so, release both buttons.

5. Next, go to the garage opener’s main console (it’s most likely the garage opener’s motor with the light turned on when opened/closed)

6. Search for a button that reads “learn”, “read”, or a noticeable button on your console. There aren’t a lot of buttons on that console, so you’ll most likely find it.

7. Press the button, and a light adjacent to the button will flash/blink. You have a 30 second window to finalize the installation.

8. Go back in the car, press and hold that button you desired to have installed and the light will blink rapidly for like 2 seconds and stop blinking (light will be on). Release the button and press/hold again. Repeat this two more times (A total of THREE times) and voila! The garage door will open/close!

Troubleshooting:

If you are stuck on number 4, try putting the garage opener remote near the 3 homelink buttons (1~4 inches). Try different angles of the remote if still does not work.

If you are stuck on number 6, where you can’t find ANY button on your console, you might have to open up the console and it will be there. I have a Genie brand garage opener and couldn’t find a button, so I gently spread open slightly between the light bulb cover and the console. Then the button was visible! So I got a flat-head screw driver, pressed the button and the light right next to it started flashing.

*I would recommend two people in installing this, so one person can be ready to press the “learn” button on the garage opener console and one working inside the car*

GOOD LUCK
got this working no problem, but when i try and code a second button it clears out the first button i coded...i have multiple garage doors, and obviously there are three buttons..how do i code all three
