Considering 09 E90 Loaded, Review CarFax Please

Hello everyone,

I am strongly considering purchasing a 2009 E90 fully loaded with Msport package. I ran the VIN and bmwvin.com and all of the options check out. I was wanting you all to review the carfax for the vehicle and tell me if everything looks alright? Looks pretty damn good to me, but I don't have much experience with BMW maintenance. I have attached the carfax below.

Any thing else I should look out for. The car looks clean and the carfax looks clean as well, so I am pretty excited. Never been modded either which is nice. What are the opinions on the extended warranty through BMW. A car that has been maintained like this one, if I continue to take care of it, really shouldn't have problems I wouldn't think. And the extended warranty is between $3000-$4000 which is pretty steep.

Thanks for any help you all can provide!

It looks like the HPFP has not replaced or turbo's. I would have a pre purchase inspection done by an indy shop before purchase.

Looks good, nothing jumps out in the Carfax report. Single owner which is a good thing, normal miles/yr, the usual maintenance and repairs, not seen snow and salt, no accidents.

Experian Autocheck looks good as well:

I know all the dealership service items are listed in Carfax, but if you want to be anal, walk into a local dealership and run the VIN in the dealer service records. They may not want to print out a copy for you, but they might tell you if any major work was done. Just to help you identify anything that wasn't reported to Carfax (remote possibility)..

nothing pops that's alarming......most of the HPFP issues were in 07-08 from what I gather, sure they may pop up but you're covered till 120k per BMW anyhow. Have an indy shop do a PPI if you'd like but it appears clean.

For the right price, this looks to be a clean car, plus LCI makes it even better!

Carfaxes can be perfect in appearance...If you are seriously considering the car, have it checked out independently ...there are services that do this for 200.00 or so...or have your Indy do it if its close by....its just plain worth it....

Also, see if any of the previous owners records come with the car...mine did, but I think thats rare...I have every dealer receipt so Im lucky to have a complete history of the cars service.....right up until one month before I bought it!...Its like Im a detective with all the answers!....

Thanks for all of the replies!

I am buying it from a private seller so I'm sure I can get the previous owners records.

Everyone keeps referring to having my "INDY" check it out. I'm not sure what this means? Any BMW dealership? I have heard that PPI is almost strictly a visual check of tires, fluids, and basic stuff and not really worth anything. Is that not the case?

Yes true. The only thing I am not 100% in love with on the car is the oyster interior. I have never seen it in person and I feel like pics can't really do it justice...I found some pics of a black m sport with oyster interior and it looked absolutely amazing.

So what should my first mod be? haha

Btw, not a joke...ha I think I want to add the angel eyes first. They look amazing. From what I've read OSS is the best? How do I get them and more importantly how do I get them installed? Estimated cost?

Thanks for your help!

I highly recommend getting a history from a BMW dealer. My carfax looked like that as well. However, during a service visit my SA printed out 3-4 pages of service records. Had I seen this prior to purchasing the car I would have turned the other way. Things are good now. But previous owner had HPFP replaced twice, new suspension, spark plugs adjusted, and few other things but it showed on carfax as routine maintenance. My only issue with this car so far has been the headlights but that's been resolved.

Looks like it was driven a little hard in that the oil changes were done near the max mileage range.

I bought a similar car this past May, without M-Sport, for about 33. It was a CPO and had only 22k miles on it though.

And the Oyster interior is beautiful as long as you take care of it and keep it clean.

Thanks for the heads up! I will try to stop by a BMW dealer and have them run the VIN.

Oil changes did seem to be kinda spread out, but I don't think that concerns me too much. This one is a very reasonable price, enough that I could buy an extended warranty through BMW and still be under $30,000. One thing that is a bit weird is the oil was changed at 40,000 and then again at 42,000...seems weird.

Any opinions on the extended warranties? I really don't want to be stuck buying a new engine and stuff, but I doubt that happens very often.

And seriously, first mod? I'm thinking Angel Eyes but don't know much about how to get them installed.

INDY refers to your independent mechanic...NOT a BMW dealership....

Ask yourself some serious questions about the previous owner...did he drive the car very hard? does it have mods....Personally , I would want a car, (and got one) that has never been modded.

There are services that will check the car from stem to stern...look into it...

Lastly...other cars will come along....they always do...

I think I got lucky with my CPO purchase. The guy walking me through how everything works at the dealership after the purchase told me he worked with the old owner. It was a rabbi in his 60s.

So I want to get the car checked out by an "indy", but I will be going to look at the car in a city other than where I live. It will be in the Dallas/Ft Worth area, so if anyone knows any good indys there please let me know!

I was also looking at the recommended maintenance schedule and the carfax, looks like the power steering fluid was recently changed which is supposed to be done around 50k I believe, and the brake fluid was just chagned, which I believe to be every other year? Does this sound right?

And another big question, is there any scheduled maintenance that I will have to perform on this car at or just after 50k? Since it is still under the 4yr/50k free maintenance plan, I feel I should take it in to the dealer to get anything else that might be necessary done, for free. Any recommendations? I would say oil change right off the bat, as it has been about 8,000 miles since it has been done. Can I get new brake pads under the free maintenance, as I never see that they were replaced (only the rear brakes were serviced/adjusted)? I might request that...Anything else I should keep an eye out for or need to put money away to service soon? Thanks!

7-17-2012 Spark plug gap adjusted.....Has anyone ever heard of that being done? It is right around the replacement interval for plugs.
