driving on bent wheel?

so got my wheels installed today... got them from a friend of a friend, I knew the one wheel was slighly bent... driving today noticed a slight wobble at higher speeds, but nothing too bad...

my question is, is it going to ruin anything else on my car with my wheel like this? I got the wheels for a cheap price and consider buying 1 new front wheel but am not sure. I can deal with the wobble, it really isn't that bad, just isn't perfectly smooth like before...

is a 19x8.5 front wheel... I KNOW some of you running 19s are dealing with this... there is NO tire sidewall, looks great but you know. Oh well I do like the look of 19s but dont know if i would shell out for a set of NEW 19s in my area...

If money is an issue, many shops can straighten a wheel for around $80-100.

Not that's it's an issue but I didn't pay a lot for them and not going to sink a lot of money into them. 100 bucks isn't bad, I'd do that.... How do they "fix" it? Heat the wheel up? How safe are they afterwards?

Handles fine.. other than a small twitch in the steering wheel at higher speeds from time to time... driving on the highway today going about 75 hardly noticed it to be honest.

It isnt bent bad at all, but that is just the nature of 19" wheels. The tires are all new... so hopefully that won't ruin them? My alignment doesn't seem off but I am not sure if a bent wheel impacts tire wear or not?

I would just take them by a wheel repair place. They use heat and pressure to straighten the wheel and make it as good as new. It is fairly inexpensive ($100 or so as was mentioned before) Keep in mind that a bent wheel is more likely to bend more and it will probably cause accelerated tire wear.

What about the strength and safety of a "repaired" rim? If they are using heat, doesn't that weaken the metal? And everyone knows, the more you bend metal back and forth, the easier it breaks!...

I am all for getting my front wheel repaired, but not if it is going to cause my rim to "explode" the next time I hit a bump in the road or something.

When you say a bent wheel will bend more, you mean if I leave it bent and drive with it bent it will bend more, or are you saying that if I fix it, it will do this?

If you leave it bent it will be more likely to bend more in that spot.

And you are right a previously bent rim is more likely to bend again but it is cheaper to repair than buy a new one and it is cheaper than replacing a worn our tire or worn suspension components a few years down the road.

If it is bent enough that you can feel it when you are driving it needs to be repaired.

When they repair the wheel, they heat it up and roll it straight. The wheel is more susceptible to bend in that area since it's been re-heated and bent back. However, many people repair bends and never have any issues. If the bend is minor, you shouldn't have any issues. Post pictures so all of us have an idea of what it looks like.

Trust me, I have TRYING to post pics for whatever reason my laptop and cell phone's bluetooth connection suddenly decides to stop working today I just got the wheels on and have been dying to show them haha

The bend is minor, I think getting it fixed sounds like the solution...

The wheel is gloss black w/ polished lip.. I know they say a "lip" wheel is "easier" to repair, but what about the paint? Any difference in how the wheel is made? I have Beyern wheels, so they are "Soft" to begin with being gravity cast or whatever they are. How should I go about finding the correct shop? Any good wheel shop can do this?

I had bent factory wheels on my E46, it caused the front brakes to become untrue, and the steering to shake under brakes.

My wheel isn't bent nearly that bad.... Already did some zero to 80 and 80 to zero to check it out, not that bad. Brakes don't vibrate and steering doesn't shake other than the slight "wheel hop" from the bent wheel, but my wheel isn't that bad.

It doesn t need to be bent a lot to compromise handling. Damage to suspension components are improbable, but uneven tire wear pattern and new rotors may be in your future if you let things get sour.

I had a long lasting brake pulsating at low speed on my bike, that yould come back after resurfacing rotors, every 1000 miles at most. Rotors were true, wheel was not, and caused pad material to deposit unevenly. Cost me more in tire and rotors than to get the wheel staightened once the issue got identified.

Yea I will get it fixed but I need to know how the process works more so I know how to pick the right shop... I have painted wheels from sheen manuf. and don't want the finish ruined. How hard of a process is this, can any wheel shop do it etc

Usually the finish is not damaged (at least for simple repairs on poder coated wheels). The wheel should not be significantly weaker after the repair, except for very bad cases.

Can "any" shop do it? Should I be picky on shop selection... Which I usually am
