BMW goodwill

Has anyone any experience of this system? My car is in for a few days having an autobox leak investigated and then the case being sent off.

The part was replaced 5 months ago whilst in warranty but has now failed. The car is meant to be going back in a few weeks but needs fixing before hand.

I have told them my 640d order will be cancelled if I do not get a satisfactory outcome from this. Hoping the sales woman will be doing all she can over this too. She looked pretty concerned this morning!

You should be ok, surely if the part was replaced 5 months ago it would come with at least a 12 month warranty.

parts fitted under warranty don't come with 12 months warranty, they have the rest of the maufacturer warranty ie 5 months

which the op knows already if asking about goodwill..

should be ok as fitting a gearbox then having leak is not a good show

Any part fitted during warranty period doesn't get its own warranty which I think is a joke. 3rd time it's failed now since having a new gearbox 10 months ago. Really not impressed with the BMW workmanship at the mo if they can't fit a gasket and oil pan correctly!

As above, no 12m warranty on parts replaced under warranty.

However, your best weapon at the moment is your relationship with your dealer. They can move heaven and earth for you if you're a good customer to them and if they think you're going to continue spending money with them well into the future.

Don't forget that your dealer can also make a contribution no matter what BMW do, depends how much they want to retain you as a loyal customer. I have used that one in the past when they have come back saying BMW will pay x%, then ask the dealer what they will contribute.

Also VERY worthwhile speaking to BMW yourself, this can be much more effective than the dealer doing it on your behalf.

Well, the car has been fixed but they won't release it as BMW have not yet authorised the work, they are telling me that BMW want to look at the car when it is hooked up to the computer.

WTF!?!? Now I've told the dealers I'm not paying a penny for the work and they agree that I shouldn't have to, but I'm concerned they have gone ahead and done it firstly without any approval from me to carry out any work that could incur a cost and secondly without and approval from BMW Uk that they will cover it.

Where the hell do I stand on this one now?

If the work has been done without your and BMW Uk approval, onus is on them to save the Arse, if anything goes wrong.
Stand firm, and do not pay a penny.

Why will they not release the car? Surely any verbal contract to complete the task is between the stealer and BMW uk? Not you. Don't see why you should be screwed over without a set of wheels to use.

they wont release the car because BMW have not authorised the work and they wont to check over the computer that the dealer has carried out the work they have said they have. Dont understand how a computer can check if an oil pan and gasket has been replaced??

I have told them from the outset that I wont be paying a penny as a fault has occured within 5 months of being fitted, and it is the 3rd time it has been replaced in 10 months. I also told the dealers that they are not to do any work to my car without and approval from myself or BMW authorising the work, which they obviously have not listened to.

They are not getting a penny from me. Only plus side is they have given me an X5 4.0D M Sport to play with until they have sorted mine out. I did bring up the fact i was carless, paying for a 335d with a 640d on order and what they would like to do to help me. X5 was brought out 10 mins later

Enjoy the ride. If you want to resolve it asap, ring BMW UK directly, as mentioned early.

Wait until it gets really bad before you escalate to bmw. On similar issues of recurring faults actually caused by poor installation, resulting in my z4 being off the road for nearly 50% of a year, on and off I got a guaranteed 20% discount off any car old or new. Used it to get this 335 msport when the order books first opened and when discounts were just not available. Wish I still had that for when the 1m came out. Lol

P.s. I hope it doesn't get that far as far as goodwill goes, but that's on top of any dealer discount when things go really bad.

You are using their X5. Dont ring them. Wait - you are putting miles on their car, as above, no need to push until they tell you it is ready and there is a decision.

Until they contact me I am leaving it. The X5 has had a good blast this evening and will continue to do so until I get mine back

My experience with BMW customer services is that they initially appear to be very helpful then when they actually have to do something the helpfulnes suddenly disappears to the point where they don't even return your calls.

Oh well, it's already cost them money. My experience has convinced a couple of people to stop considering BMW for their new cars and I'm currently awaiting delivery of something that's not a BMW.

I'd just keep driving their car and not worry too much, personally I think you'll be fine.

All sorted now got my car back with nothin to pay. Ended up being done through my extended warranty and bmw covered my excess due to the part failing prematurely. Result

They also updated the gear box software and reset all of the adaptations. Feels like a completely different car now, gear changes far smoother than they have ever been and no jerking at low speeds in ds mode. Will be sad to see her go
