Bought my car with 38k and have 49k on it now... my car is also a CPO car, so I have 2 more years of warranty... but

How does BMW know when the factory 4/50k runs out and the CPO kicks in? Does it store it in the CPU or something?

CPO 2 Year/XXX miles tacks onto the original 4 Year/50k.

So it depends on when you bought your car.

If your car was originally purchased 02/2007, factory warranty expired 02/2011 and you are already on extended warranty til 02/2013 (or earlier if you use up XXX miles).

If your car was originally purchased 02/2009, factory warranty will expire earlier than anticipated 11/2011 and your extended warranty will kick in til 11/2013 (or earlier if you use up XXX miles).

Don't mean to thread jack but I'm I'm a similar situation. Original warranty us up on 4/2012 or 50k. My understanding of CPO is it add 2 years to your warranty or 100k total miles. Well I just took my car in and it's 49,300 miles. The question is .. My warranty is up 4/2014 or earlier?

The term "4-years or 50,000 miles, whichever comes first" means the warranty lasts until 4 years after the in-service date (the first time the car was sold) OR up to 50,000 miles if the 50,000 miles is reached before 48 months after the car was sold. The CPO warrantly, I believe adds 2 years and an additional 50,000 miles to the base warranty, which would be a max of 6 years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first.

So for example: if you bought a car on February 15, 2006, the warranty expires February 15, 2010. If you drove the car 50,001 miles in two years (say, February 28, 2008) then the warranty ended on Febraury 28, 2008. If you have CPO, then the end date of the warranty would be February 15, 2012. If you drove the car 100,001 miles in 3 years (say, February 28, 2009) the warranty ended on February 2009.

When you bring your car in, either the tech will read your keyfob or will look at your odometer.
