Muffler Delete?

Hello All!

I will be picking up a 2007 328i Coupe tomorrow. Been searching around these forums and got a lot of useful information already.

I saw that the muffler delete is a popular option to get but I had a few questions since this is a lease takeover and I want to be able to return it back to stock when I turn in the car.

I see that most people are removing the muffler between the cat and the pipes and just welding a straight pipe in its place. Is there a way to fab a straight pipe all the way from the cat to the tips (i'd have to buy new tips of course). Is there a reason most people are cutting it off completely versus just fabricating a new piece altogether? Is it because there are hangers involved? If so, couldn't that be fabricated as well? What am I missing?

Thanks in advance!

you can pretty much have an exhaust shop do anything you want. The cutting off and "fabricating" a straight pipe with a tip is what a muffler delete is. You can just have the shop reinstall the OG exhaust with a "sleeve clamp" when you return the lease

Are most people just cutting off the muffler portion because there are hangers involved? From all the threads on this topic, it seems the most popular route is just to cut just that portion and not fab a whole new piece.

I havent had a chance to look under the car yet so I have no clue how everything fits together.

Wow.. That looks great! Since you took out the whole system, did you need to add on any hangers to support the tubing? From the pic, it looks like the exhaust is just "suspended".

i did a lil magic spell it just floating there, ther are actually two huge bolts from the bumper than we attached hangers to in the back, then along the rest of the system we used the factory hangers

very popular option on 328s..lots of different setups, with or without muffler. it usually comes down to how good the shop is at welding and keeping everything clean
