Do other manufacture's with direct injection have problems with their HPFP's?

Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by some of the top engineers in the world because some guys sponsored by a company told you it's "better??" But when you ask the same guy about tracking, "oh no, I have a kid now" or "I just detailed my car." or "i just got new tires."

VW/Audi was reported to have a few similar fuel delivery issues but not to the extent BMW has

Has anyone considered marketing some sort of small stick-on vinyl emblem showing the outline of a HPFP with a slash line through it? It could be stuck on the front fender after every HPFP replacement. Sort of like on the nose of a WW2 fighter plane. Sounds like we already have a few "aces" out there.

Haha I actually think this sounds kinda cool....never seen an actual picture of the HPFP - anyone have one of just the pump?

Edit - found it quite easily on realoem, the pump is 1

FWIW, the forum co-admin Jason was kind enough to BAN me from these forums for 30 days for reporting the N55 HPFP failure situation in the 1Addicts forum over a month ago. Apparently Jason and perhaps folks at BMW don't want consumers to know the facts? Jason's rationale was that I was creating "hysteria" by reporting what I knew to be fact, because I didn't post an online link confirming the N55 HPFP failures.

Judge for yourself... Denial doesn't change reality nor does shooting the messenger.

I hope anyone with an N54/55 that experiences a HPFP failure will take 10 minutes to report this serious safety defect to NHTSA.gov online as this is the only means they have to know these safety defect issues exist. NHTSA is your consumer rep for auto safety and product defects.

Ahh, what the hell do you know - you only have technical expertise.

You can't be accused of saying the sky is falling if it actually has fallen.

They owe you an apology.

Oh - if I drop out of sight in the next few days then it probably is because I got banned for posting this.

2011 Hyundai Sonata has direct injection, and owners do nothing but rave about it. Wife's uncle said there was a waiting list for the car 4 mos. ago.

imho HPFP is a symptom, not the root cause of the N54's woes. Some design flaw causes it to break, it is not the problem in itself. If it were, 4 pumps later the problem would be gone.

While speculation is the best we can get for now, I tend to agree with this. Just like when something else breaks repeatedly, it's not the part itself, yet something causing it to break. Either way it is evident that BMW doesn't know, considering their new version of the motor has the same problem.

They addressed that the HPFP was an issue and extended the coverage.... the letter would be shit without them backing it up. But they should have found a fix by now, I'm assuming that what you were referring to.

I had a MazdaSpeed3 prior to this, it had DISI, direct injection spark ignition with absolutely no problem at all, nor have I ever heard of anyone having a problem with it.

It's rather hard to google a picture of it as I can't find one either. I saw mine before it was installed and I can tell you it looks like a weird shaped can with a few rods sticking out on both sides.

That's probably a very good representation, I got a chance to hold it for a few seconds but it was still wrapped. I have to say for such a small part it is rather heavy though.

I'm glad I own a 2006 model. Usually the 1st model has all the problems and the subsequent ones would fix them. This is oddly not the case.

The 328s (ie subsequent 325 equivalents) don't have direct injection either. This isn't a function of model year, rather of the technology.

Wow, what a bummer. I'm on my second fuel pump, it's a -933, so I'm quite certain that my car will be fine.
10 year/100,000 mile warranty, I'm not so worried about it.
