Hello Everybody,

A while back we had a discussion about the differences between the 325d and the 330d.

I was told by Hartge that it was the same engines and that is NOT exactly right.

I have used the E91 MY07 for research on the Realoem.com website and it seems that the difference between the two are parts of the fuel preparation system.

The turbos are the same and so is the rest of engine (from what I have been able to deduct). However these parts seems to be different:

325d:
http://www.realoem.com/bmw/partgrp.d...id=49551&hg=13

330d:
http://www.realoem.com/bmw/partgrp.d...id=48836&hg=13

I do not know what kind of difference this makes but the fact is that it is not the same parts in the two cars.

Would someone care to ask Hartge and/or ESS about this?

Ulrik

Looks like the injectors are different - and have changed several times on the 330d since the E9x was introduced.

Any reason for the changes, like problems?
Or is BMW just changing to a cheaper subsupplier?

Some new 325d info.

Just dynoed my stock 325d manual, 218 hp! (185 at the rear wheels)

This engine is way more fresh than it is supposed to be, and not far from the 330d really. But its the same engine, just tuned down a bit.

It can be chipped to 280 hp by ESS, they have a dealer in the UK.

And it has 6 cylinder charm and VERY good milage.

Hello Dag,

Did you by any chance ask ESS about the differences I mentioned in my post further up in this thread?

Nice Dyno!

For info, the latest BMW Car magazine says in the Alpina D3 article that the 323d will never happen due to the strict company car hierarchy in Germany (ie the 4 pot 323d is too close to the successful 6 cyl 325d). Better eat my words then.....

I did not ask them about that, but I trust Hartge when they tell me the result of mapping the two engines are the same.

I will send you a private message

Thats a shame, mind you, once the 325 gets ED there may be little in it.

Im almost sure I read before in this thread that it was as well. Although some posts has been edited by Dag...

According to ESS the manual transmission differs in the 325d and 330d, where the 330d has a ü-rating which indicates that it has some beefier parts.

ED = Efficient Dynamics

I was at ESS this past thursday, 298hp on the crank

nagge, what else have you got modified, the ESS dyno plots only show a 30BHP increase (i guess this is at the wheels though)?

Just curious

Nothing else, but this is as far as It's possible to take it without compromising the reliability.

ESS will give you what ever increase you want, where you want it so its up to the customer

The manual transmission is as far as I know identical, but the automatic is different for sure. Some people have checked all the parts numbers on the transmissions and found this.
I dont know about the u-rating, but it could be true of course!

What dyno are you thinking of?

On the 330d they say 290 hp from 231 (they say they have 240 hp original)
On 325d they say 184,5 to 238 at the wheels, thats 218 to 280.....

They have a 2006 730d dyno curve on the website for the 231BHP version it shows 202BHP standard and 231BHP remapped.

Maybe they have changed the map since then
