Taxes / Duties for buying parts from US?
My E90 has arrived in Halifax and I was just wondering how much duty &/or taxes do us Cnaucks typically have to pay on car parts?
I've been lurking around in Tischer BMW's site for a while and I think I'm gonna start out with some blacklines and the pedal set. How much duty/taxes do you guys think will get charged if any??

Congrats.
As for the parts, if the part is made in a NAFTA country then you don't need to pay duty. All you have to pay is taxes. If the part is made out side of NAFTA country then i believe it is 6%. However if you are going to use a broker to clear the products then there will be additional charges. |

if someone is shipping something thru UPS or DHL from another country INTO canada,
is it possible to get them to NOT clear customs and myself go clear customs and pay taxes and pick it up, this way i avoid the stupid brokerage since i am clearing customs myself

AVOID using UPS or FEDEX at all costs ... otherwise due to brokerage fees/shipping costs, you might as well buy in Halifax or Moncton.
Ask Tischer if they will ship USPS , and also if they are willing to put a lower amount of value on the package (or "warranty replacement") which is even better |

Yes it is poosible. As said in the post the worst courier to deal with are UPS and Fedex. DHL seems to be pretty good. One company I will vouch for it Baxglobal. When the product is shipped make sure to mark it as Selfclearance on the way bill.

This is a useful site to have:
http://www.thefinalcost.com/ Tischer can also ship USPS, so for smaller parts, it's worth it ordering from Tischer.

today i got some bicycle wheels shipped. they used USPS, and the price quoted was at 150.. only had to pay 11$ in tax !!!
USPS has the slowest tracking system, but i rather have that then paying the insane brokage fee's that ups charges me everytime!

For those of you in the Vancouver area you may want to consider getting your stuff shipped to The Letter Carrier in Pt. Roberts or a similar depot in Bellingham. UPS/FedEx/USPS shipping within the US is cheap and dead reliable, and since you want to be clearing customs yourself, you'd might as well avoid shipping across the border altogether.

TSB also offers wonder customer service. One time, i forgot to print my invoice online, but the staff @ TSB offered their computers free of charge and allowed me to print the invoices that i need. The drive to point roberts is boring. + it might not be really worth saving a couple dollars (eg, front lip, grill)..
