Time for a battery? Where to buy?

My 2007 328XI is starting to crank very slowly in the cold mornings. It's got 130k miles on it and the battery is 4 years old. Does anyone know the part number and where to buy a replacement? I certainly don't want to pay triple at the dealer!

Do a search on "battery registration" - you'll be surprised.

autozone or pay 3-4x to let dealer do the new batt registration and all if you want peace of mind.

Replace it with the battery of your choice, than take to an indie repairer with a BT tool to register that it has a new battery. Way cheaper than dealer.

Ahhh, that explains why I've been having trouble finding batteries online! What's the cost of the battery from Autozone?

I'm bringing the car in for an oil change soon, perhaps they'll register my new battery at the same time even if I bought it elsewhere?

This $296 battery is what you need. It is an AGM like the OEM battery. The Autozone $100 batteries are lead acid batteries and although they will work, are not the same as an AGM.

Tischer lists them for about $100~$160.

That is a very good price if those are AGM, but it is not clear from the site that they are. I doubt they are based on the price.

I agree. If I were the OP, I'd call & find out. Even though the dealership is in the midst of a major renovation, the parts dept. is still very easy to deal with and totally professional.

Also, if the BMW list prices are as posted by Tischer, the OP should find the same batteries at a decent price at his dealer, if he doesn't wish to go the mail order route.

This does not negate the need to have the battery "registered" to the car though correct?

Tom
Good idea, except the shipping cost. Batteries are something you get local because the shipping costs are a large part of the price you pay already. Why pay shipping twice.

Correct, although there is still debate about whether it is really needed at all.

The site I linked says the price includes shipping, so I suppose they will ship it to you.

Oh, I was referring to Tischer not shipping batteries.

With all hazardousness materials, you need a license to ship them. Since the link provided is Odyssey's direct website, they obviously have those licenses.

I just took a look at my battery, and it is an original BMW one, but it is not an AGM. It is white with the little magic window on it. I was glad to see that since a regular lead acid battery should be cheaper. It is also not a finicky as an agm when it comes to charging, so I will probably skip the 'registration'. This is assuming the battery out lasts the warranty - if not, I will just have BMW replace it when the time comes.

$135 (give or take, depending on your dealers diagnostic fee) to register the battery is nothing...compared to what could happen.

BTW, you can say goodbye to your electrical warranty. If you have any electrical problems and the dealer sees your aftermarket battery....they will try to blame that.

Costco and Battery World are good options.

I really doubt that would happen. Unless your dealer is an utter idiot or utter asshole.

Is the battery covered under the CPO warranty?
