hi all, i got both of them (DOD-Tech LS400W and Blackvue DR500GW HD) and i can honestly say that quality is far better in DOD-tech cam then Blackvue.
I tried both, night and day recording and i was really impressed with DOD's. used samsung 64GB card and surprisingly worked with it. product quality is good as well, a lot better than blackvue DR500GW for £259.00!, but if someone is a "picky" then he will always find something to moan about, doesn't matter which camera it would be :P
anyway, i would strongly recommend DOD, fairly good price £129 (shipping FOC!!!! as got mine from UK offical distributor, it DID CAME NEXT DAY!!!!! ), recording quality is marvellous, no need to say more, you should check all them movies on youtube.
got my own from this one : www.dod-tech.co.uk - did email DOD in Taiwan to find out if he is genuine and surprisingly he is!!! ( hurrah!)
Blackvue, well..... it is quite expensive piece of gadget and noise at night is just a disappointment, this shit doesn't even compare with DOD!!!

Blackvue DR500GW HD < £259.00
DOD-Tech LS400W < £129.00

Can you kindly provide a photo of the front of your car?
Just want to see how does it look when installed.
Thanks for a quick comparison.

Here is very quick review of most of the dash cams with their pros and cons.
http://dashcamtalk.com/dash-cam-comparison/

I need something with good design and most importantly parking mode recording.
It appears that this is best deal for its money.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-JAEWON...item1c302309ac

It has parking mode.
It comes with the battery saviour.

The only drawback which I see is
-chunky
-external GPS

A video showing what is in the box

Other plus points are
- Security LEDs
- Built in back up battery
- Video out port
- Physical Event button (if you find nutter like B. Edition, just press it to record)

Defo better than Blackvue in terms of price and design wise its very similar. £140 Delivered is decent price IMO.

Excellent comparison, even Mr Magoo could see that the DOD gives better results

havent suction mounts to the windscreen just been made illegal? I believe that these now need a double sided tape adhesion.

My dash cam front and rear view

Hi all, as requested by sam i have uploaded an example of a front and rear view journey from my dash cam. Its only £45 plus postage and i can say it definatly does the job. Both clips from same journey. Just a slow cruise nothing to exciting.
I will add a night journey in the next couple of days, had to adjust a couple of settings for nightmode, so i will have some footage real soon and if any one wants details of cam ebay item no 321106198077
This gadjet is pretty cool, it has several functions my frav is motion detection. so it will start to record if it detects motion around the vehicle.
good for finding out who opened there door into yours at the carpark or reversed into.
front view

rear view

Thanks for the photos.
I guess that dash cam does the job, but aesthetics are poor. I can't seem to fit one of those on my car hanging like that.
No offence bud, and thanks for posting your review.

I saw Ibz car the other day and that was not too bad.
I will opt for the one which I posted above or the one which is being used by ibz.

Thanks.

Read feedback on IONE. Going to avoid it.

good luck with ur search Mob, I went with Blackvue in the end due to the size and it being a more complete package I bought the 400GW-HD II, it's not the latest and the greatest but should do the job....

+1
After months of research, I cannot find a single unit which is really up for the job. I want a top notch camera with all the options especially recoding when parked.

If you go on the basis of videos, then DOD camera is excellent.

If you go on the specs, BlackVue is excellent. But night time video is let down.
I guess the good point about UK roads are that they are well lit, and having a xenon on beemer helps with the night time video.

Another option is mi witness.
http://www.mi-witness.co.uk/
It has wi-fi built in as well. But its expensive and there are no independent reviews especially comparing it to other camera. However when funds allow, you can add the rear view camera.

Another wi-fi enabled camera is LUKAS LK-7900. Shape is absolutely disgusting.

Next one is VicoVation WF-1.
Videos get good reviews, but shape and lack of built in GPS is let down.

Lastly, another one is Cowon Auto Capsule AW1.
you get phone applications like blackvue. Good shape.
However you will have to buy external GPS and there are no reviews on night time recording.

More you read, more you get confused.
After going through all these, I am biased toward BlackVue or Cowon AW1.
But both of them have some issues. I have been waiting for a decent camera for past 6 months, but this market is not promising.

I hope some decent company can come up with a proper decent and stable dashcam.

Hi Sam, just to confuse the issue even more, I picked up this snippet from jokiin on DASHCAMTALK that may be of interest:

".......... we do have a dual remote cam model planned, the DVR is separate in that one so what's on the window will be very small as a result"

Linky

I've no idea what his release schedule is but it certainly sounds interesting

not really;
check specification of Apitek Lukas LK-7900 or dod-tech cameras,
F.1.6 apeture, better battery, better Wide Angle -140degree (blackvue only 120!!!), 6g Sharp Lens, better temperature resistant up to +80degree (blackvue +70), better camera sensor, support 64GB memory card,

what spec in blackvue you mean?

are you blackvue seller?

Indeed I'm BlackVue Seller. Firstly we thank you (NOT) for your patience while waiting to hear from us. We appreciate (really) your comment and we
try our best to take every comment as a joke.

Now would you like to order any cameras or are you just going to waste our time?

Well my preference is wi-fi enabled camera and I do not want to get the card out and tweak the settings on the computer. And hence most of the dashcams I have shortlisted are wi-fi enabled. Hope that still links me somehow with blackVue.

However I am inclined toward a different product and will review its videos tonight.

Thanks Ian. When I get time, I will go through it. My preference is capsule shaped camera with wi-fi and I am limiting myself to only certain products.
