Quick question, if I purchased an AA tune for my 330i with the simon tool, would I have to pay for a whole new tune if I decided to do headers and exhaust a few months down the road? Or should I wait and do all 3 at once?

Catback won't make a difference, only headers and there's an upgrade fee for the off-road tune. But I'm not sure but if AA still supports the Simon tool.

Andrew,

I have an '06 330i that is throwing SES codes (2A2E, 2A2F; fuel mixture control, bank 1 and bank 2, respectively).

I have replaced the following trying to track this down:
MAF sensor
Air filter
Spark Plugs/Ignition Coils
VANOS Solenoids
PCV valve and hoses
Both DISA valves

All changes have had no effect. However, my car is not stock either, I have the Euro intake with a silicone hose, along with BMW Performance exhaust and a secondary cat delete. There is no vacuum leak, and 2 separate BMW specific shops have been unable to identify anything physically wrong with the car. However, the car IS running rich and is setting these codes on my dash.

There has been discussion in this thread about cam timing needing to be changed with intake/exhaust changes like this, so my question - is this something you have experienced? Do you think there is any chance that you could use a tune to resolve my problem?

I did break down and ordered new primary O2 sensors this week, and of course I noticed that the SES had turned itself off when I was at lunch today. I had hooked it up my BavTech scanner to pull the codes earlier this week but I know I didn't clear them, so I'm gonna hook it up again to see if they're still there, reset codes and wait for the light to come back again.

Talking Just installed this along with a 3IM

Car is a 2007 328xi Touring, with 117xxx miles on it, stock exhaust. After perusing this and other forums about how to get some more kick out of the N52, I opted to go with the 3 Stage IM and the AA tune. Some history:

I put the the 3IM on first, did an adaptive reset, and drove about 200 miles that day. I wasn't expecting much of a change, but it did seem to pull little harder above 4k when merging/accelerating.

3 days later, I got the tune installed using the Simon 3, and I gotta give big props to AA- I sent my tune in at approx 5 PM PST, and had my tune the next morning around 8 AM PST. Pretty quick turnaround! Installed it, and only had one issue with the Simon tool- It wouldn't do the adaptive reset, so I did the old pedal down/ignition method.

Impressions: Butt dyno is happy! I think a big improvement is the throttle response, but also, the car now pulls much harder than it did before. It's significant enough to make me happy, and my wagon now feels like a proper, sporty BMW. I'm going to drive like a normal person for my next road trip to see if there's any noticeable change in MPG, but honestly, I don't expect much.

Thanks to Andrew for patiently answering my dumb questions, Nic for getting the tune back to me so quickly, and to this forum, where I got all my stupid(awesome) ideas from such as 335i brakes (done, easy peasy!), the 3IM, and the AA tune info.

You can get a new tune from them for the headers, just email them. They do have a new tool out.

I have the same problem! The button is greyed out, and it's really annoying because I can't really tell if the gas pedal reset thing is actually working.

What does this mean? Are they going to allow coding with Simon? If so that would be awesome.

Currently, Simon tool can only be used for applying tunes.

Norton security claims Simon 3 executable is infected with a virus

I have attempted to install the Simon 3 software on 2 separate Windows computers now, and it is failing. At first, I thought it was because of the signed drivers issue, which I have to say is extremely stupid in any case. The software should be properly signed. Moving on though - Norton antivirus immediately quarantines the executable after the install is completed, claiming it is infected with a virus. It appears to be the "heuristic search" that is taking this action. It is simple enough to exclude the install location if you have admin control over your antivirus program, so I was able to do that on my PC. However, the laptop I'm using doesn't allow me to do that, so I have no way to run the program right now unless I go buy a cheap burner laptop.

Has anyone noticed trojan or virus issues after installing the Simon 3 software? It's possible Norton is just being over-reactive, but they claim their detection doesn't make too many mistakes - so, it is possible that the program really does contain a virus.

What does it list as the actual virus?

Only the "Simon 3 BMW.exe" file in C:\Program Files\Simon3 after the install program is run. Norton Security and Symantec Endpoint Protection both quarantine it immediately. I just submitted it to Symantec using their false positives submission site. Maybe that will work.

But what do they classify it as - they usually tell you what category it falls in, and the name/type of the actual virus.

Yeah, according to Norton, it's also a low risk item anyhow.

Seems like you have a larger virus already. Norton.

I just got a reply from Symantec and they are whitelisting the app. It should no longer be quarantined as of the next virus definition file release.
