HKS Exhaust + Catless DPs = Drone :-(
So I just installed an HKS Exhaust along with a Hotchkis X-Brace and I'm a little disappointed with the way it sounds...
I had AA Catless DPs on before with the stock exhaust and I really liked the way it sounded. But I came across a great deal on the HKS and it seemed to be the only thing the car didnt have(bedsides a single turbo kit ) so I was like what the heck lets do it! So I got it and put it on. I have to say fitment was PERFECT! And the Titanium Tips compliment my car really well but... as soon as I started driving it I immediately started hearing drone! If I put the windows down it obviously gets better but I rarely do that, I live in South Florida, 90% humidity year round Maybe I need to drive it a little and it'll sound better but I'm really not too excited about it :-/ I'll keep you guys posted if it gets any better... I might look into High-flow cats, we'll see i guess. Meanwhile here is a pic I took with my phone of the finished install

Hi J, the vibrant resonators may help. At least a little. Unfortunately most of the dual muffler setups R drone city, but have been toned with resonators. They are about 100 bux on amazon and another 100 to install.

High flow cats should help. It will quiet it down too. I know there are some universal vibrant high flow cats on vrsf's website. 200 cell shouldn't be too bad for exhaust flow..... the factory secondaries are 600 cell, iirc.

How come the anti-flex plate doesn't have the HKS logo cut-out?

I said the same thing... its cuz its a early production exhaust that was never sent out with the "HKS" stamped/cut into it. HKS sent the previous owner the HKS logo bracket but he missplaced it :-/ Its OK ill just hit up HKS for one later.

I have the same exhaust paired with VRSf downpipes and think the exhaust sounds great. Drone is expected with alot of the aftermarket exhausts out there, though there is variances with the amount in each. No matter what car you have, upgrade the exhaust and some drone may be expected. I notice that alot of the owners on this forum throw exhausts on these cars and think they are going to pur like a kitten. What did everyone think was going to happen by removing the cats? Sorry that the drone isn't your cup of tea. Many people do what you originally did, and just replace the downpipes and keep the stock exhaust due to the sound. The resonators do little to prevent it. It happens mainly when the car is under load. It all comes down to personal preference though. Maybe there is some type of alternative for you that will work. E90Company's suggestion to swap for the Perf exhaust may work. I hear it is just slightly louder than the stock exhaust. I stay in Texas but am currently in Delaware on vacation. There is a huge difference in humidity between the two but not sure if that changed anything with the exhaust note or drone...sounds the same to me.

I agree. Its a little drone-y at highway speeds. If you are 6at pop it in to DS and drone is gone. Its right around 2200-2400 rpms.
Just got this setup about a week ago. Love it.

LOL, i can't imagine there is someone who is more sensitive to drone than I am. I could be wrong about your car but the drone you mentioned might caused by something else? any contact between the exhaust and the chassis?

Give it a chance OR get resonators welded in somewhere -- Only real solutions for drone

I have the HKS exhaust on my car with stock downpipes and I love the exhaust, best sounding from all the ones I've heard before. But I think it's to be expected that you'll have drone with catless dp's and an aftermarket exhaust. After all, people get drone with the PE and catless dp's and that's a semi stock exhaust.
That's why my goal is to save up enough money to get the AR Catted Dp's to compliment the HKS purrrr
