Start-off assistance and PDC malfunction

Yesterday my car gave me a warning that start-off assistance is not functioning (this is the hill assist feature). Around the same time, iDrive seemed to spontaneously switch to PDC mode and the PDC audio warning seems to be on all the time (when cars pull close to me at a stop light, I start to hear beeping).

After shutting the engine off and then starting it again, things work fine for a bit and then go back to this funky mode.

I'll make an appointment and take the car in. Oh, the joys of owning a technologically advanced car! I guess this can be seen as BMW's attempt to encouraging close relationships between customers and their service reps

I went over exactly one small speed bump too fast, but that was 200 miles ago (I didn't see it soon enough). If that's the reason, then god help us all.

It probably won't happen with every speed bump you ramp over...but sometimes you are just unlucky enough to cause some damage... happened to me once in my 2 years of my E46 and I did speed over a few bumps in that time... unlucky bump

Must be something with the rear wiring or one of the control modules

Have you had a look to see if you can see any loose connections ?

I made an appointment for tomorrow, but I'll try to see if I can spot anything myself and save myself the hassel.

the reverse lights tell the story, the car thinks it's in reverse
probably a faulty reverse sensor on the tranny.

should be an easy fix

Backup/reverse switch on tranny sounds faulty. Just replaced one on an e30, but mine was stuck in the OFF position. Never knew I didn't have reverse lights until I went to inspect the car for sale. Of course, PDC wasn't even on the horizon when the e30s were produced.

Well, I hope they have them in stock. My dealer says they can't give me a loaner with such short notice, even though this is a safety concern with everyone around me thinking I'm backing up. I said I'll bring it in early and hope they can find the problem quickly.
