If you're going to buy DPs, IMHO there's really only 3 companies you should consider: AR, cp-E & Macht Schnell. The AR's are basically the Cadillac in this segment, they cost the most but also have the best fit & use the highest quality of materials. Then cp-E & MS. IIRC, AR & cp-E are your only options for Xi owners.

hmm what made you decide that the VRSF quality was a dissappointment?

Chances are it was 75% my mind looking for an excuse to not like them. Every random once in a while I would get subframe/transmission rubbing (rare) & I'd hear the tinny vibrating noise at idle from the trans bolts + DPs vibrating. We couldn't figure out how this was happening because when the car was on a lift was plenty clearance. The performance was without a doubt significantly better & the exhaust note was great under WOT, but in the end, I think I just couldn't be happy with the VRSFs because I wanted used MS or ARs + couldn't find them.

I now have Akra DPs, they're 2.75" and there's tons of clearance. The nicest things about the design is that it's a single tube bent (no welded sections), Akra uses studs instead of bolts (midpipe connection) & they mount into a bracket just like the OEM DPs (so they'll never shift around). I also think because the Akras are a little narrower, that boost builds up a little quicker & that the car is a little more responsive to throttle input.

This is just my experience & for all I know, I could've had the same problems with Macht Schnell, cp-E, AR or even SuperSprint downpipes. The mechanic who did my install is a BMW foreman, has a 1M w/ ARs and when he saw the VRSFs, he thought they were ARs (was confused b/c there was no badging). They went in easily & lined up, but my car just wasn't receptive. Surprisingly, he said that the Fabspeeds are the worst DPs he's ever installed & that they refused to go in smoothly.

i heard that one maybe 50 times but i'm not sure if there's bad civic-like rasp or not.. the owner of that car said that from 1 to 10 there was a level 8 rasp, even though it doesn't sound like that in the video.. so i want people with this setup to post better quality videos of the engine under load. it looks like the best option for a catless loud setup
Get some vibrant resonators to take away the rasp

People shouldn't have to add something to an exhaust to make it sound pleasant. JMO

so as for now ill just explain whats going on...i have catless downpipes and just finished putting on the exhaust yesterday and heres the verdict

its awesome except for drone at 2500-2900 rpms and i cant take it...going through that section is fine but if you were cruising on the highway at like 75 in 6th, then the drone will kill your ears.

also the cause of this might be some vibrations too as i recently got an lsd installed and the vac diff cover...the exhaust touches both the diff cover and my camber link in the rear.

but overall the sound is very deep and gets a little higher pitched as you full throttle it...it sounds awesome and really no rasp at all. there are some kind of tinny noise as my exhaust is slightly touching both diff and rear camber link.

personally i thought i would never like an exhaust too much louder than stock but i actually do love the sound but still thought it was a tad bit loud for my taste...however my buddy who drives a supped up firebird he said he doesnt think my exhaust is loud enough and he absolutely loves the sound.

with that in mind i still might end up selling this and get a custom exhaust.

if anyone is interested let me know, price is at $1200 firm as i just got it and thats what i got it for...but cant sell it til this weekend as my buddy might buy it when he comes down but i would still like to have some deals if i do decide to sell it and he doesnt buy it.

whether i sell it or not the vids are coming.

Fixed that for you. No muffler. Just a single resonator.

That's my car and yes it made my ears bleed that's why it was on the car for 2 weeks. I have to say from outside the car it was far from obnoxious, it sounded so awesome. I wish it wasn't so loud inside the car or else I would've kept it.

That is the WORST. Sounds great for EVERYONE outside the car, but everybody riding in the car needs earplugs.

I've just come to the conclusion that with the turbo 6-cylinders there will never be a GOOD sound to the exhaust. It'll always be a somewhat muted, bass filed tone + if you try to improve it by adding an exhaust, you'll just get TONS of drone inside & drive yourself batshit crazy.

The new M5/M6 doesn't sound bad, but it's the V8 that makes the difference. Sadly it'll never live up to the sound of the S85

Not even a joke, I had earplugs in the center console for the highway haha.
