Hi all,

Car is 2009 335i E92, with style 230 19" 5-spoke wheels. Got a set of winter wheels and tires, and dropped my summer set off to be refinished. After I dropped them off, got a call from the shop, they said that they couldn't reuse my old valve stems, could I get them new ones? I kind of expected that I would need new ones, figured that they would just replace them and charge me, but whatever. Called Tire Rack, had them drop ship four new valve stems, figured that was the end of it. Called wheel shop today to see how they were doing, not that I'm in a real hurry to get my wheels back, but it's been a while. Guy says they finished them, but he can't use the valve stems I shipped him, they're too short. Stopped at dealership after work, figured I'd just suck it up and pay dealer prices, parts counter guy says BMW does not list the valve stems by year/wheel, they list them by the color of the paint dot on the base of the valve stem. OK... I sincerely hope that the wheel shop hasn't thrown my old valve stems out yet (they close at 5, it was too late to call from dealership) I will call tomorrow but let's say that they don't have the old ones anymore. Does anyone know what part number or color I need for 2009 style TPMS on Style 230 wheels?

Sidebar question, just out of curiosity. Wheel guy mentioned that my wheels apparently had hollow spokes. Well, if they're made by BBS and have hollow spokes that explains why they're so expensive to replace, but why are they still so goshdarn heavy?

I'm looking at realoem.com now and I'm more confused than ever.

My production date is 9/2008 if anyone feels like helping.

I'm guessing that I need part number 36136775937 but that is only a guess, the part number for the valve stem is not listed for anything other than Canadian versions? I'm assuming "Tyre Pressure Control" is TPMS?

Forgot to mention previously that I also have a set of Style 157 wheels (my winter set) and the valve stems (and new sensors) that I got from Tire Rack worked fine on those.

Would prefer if possible to get a good part number and order from Tischer not my local dealership, as Tischer is actually on the way to the shop that is refinishing my wheels, so that would work out well...

Edit: I'll be damned. Looked up a 2009 328i with Style 157 wheels and the p/n for "SCREW IN VALVE (RDC)" is 36111095375 which was discontinued and superseded by 36146792829 - so apparently there are different stems used for different wheels. (or is it just the 230s and that's why this hasn't come up more often?)

Now why does realoem list part numbers but BMW dealer says I need to look at stem color?

OK, I think I'm finally getting to the bottom of this.

The below is from the realoem.com *TPMS* page which must be where my service guy was looking

so it looks like for a 2009 there were at least three options - no dot, orange, or green. Now here's the funny thing - the 36136775937 part number isn't listed above! I think the other option that the dealer parts guy mentioned was gold? not sure? Aaaargh, I'm about to kick puppies! Damn you BMW for making something simple into something so difficult!

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that I really do need to order the P/N 36136775937 and also that the most common BMW valve stem must be the 36111095375/36146792829 application which is the ones that Tire Rack will sell you if you order from them. So of course my car is speshul... figures. Do I roll the dice and order from Tischer? I think I do... 'cause I need new center caps too and Sterling BMW I think sells parts at a markup from list

Contact Tischer or Turner first and ask them. I believe Tischer sells this wheel and can give you required P/N. Turner is also a great source and maybe EAS as well.

Issues like this are very annoying!

Well I called YOWS and they hadn't thrown out my old parts but they said they did have to cut them off so I don't know if I will even be able to match them up. Even worse they said that they didn't see any paint dots on the stems. So I guess the plan is I will probably have to kill a Saturday morning and run up to YOWS, pick up a wheel and TPMS sensor and my old busted stems, take that to Tischer, then run back to YOWS, hope they have enough time to get all my tires mounted and balanced, and hopefully that will be the end of this whole sordid tale. And if I 100% confirm the part number for the replacement stems for the 230s I will be sure to let you all know!

Confirmed, that is the correct part number for the Style 230 wheels. However I'll be damned if I see a marking of any kind on them!

Hmm, what about aftermarket wheels...can most of them accommodate the shorter valve stems? Can anyone confirm who's swapped them over from OEM 17/18" to 19" aftermarket?

From what I've seen on the style 230 you need a longer thread since that wheel has a double wall valve hole. RDV003 is classified as black.

Here are the different colors:

wow, that is excellent info, where did you get that cross reference? I looked on the shop********* web site as that's where your photos were watermarked from but their "search by manufacturer part no" functionality isn't working for me. In any case your post oughta be a sticky! And the ones I got from tire rack measure 1-11/16" *overall length* which is just about 43mm which implies that the measurements are total overall length of the valve stems (not to the shoulder,) and that they are in fact selling the equivalent of the 36111095375 part number. Now if there were just some way I could measure the 36136775937s that are now mounted in my 230s which have tires on them - or cross reference it to the RDV003 49mm - #36111095374 we'd have this issue fully documented.

x-refs to BMW part numbers, but not the one I was looking for... but may be helpful to others, if you get the p/n off realoem.

Edit2: Punching in 36 11 1 095 374 to realoem that is a "black" valve stem but appears to be used on different wheels. Mystery remains. Wish I'd seen your post while the valve stems were still off my car so I could measure them. Unfortunately the originals apparently had to be cut off due to corrosion so they can't be measured.

Edit3: Armed with more information, I did some more web searching - the 36136775937 valve stems appear to be ONLY used on Style 230 wheels and no others; I can't seem to find a length listed anywhere. I *knew* I should have measured them, but I was in a hurry to get my wheels/tires mounted so I didn't have to make two trips to the wheel shop... :/

Good info guys thanks. I sorted through RealOEM, most other 19" wheels such as style 313, 225, and 199 use the shorter 43mm valve stem. The 230 is a bit of an oddball.

Had I known this info up front I might have been more inclined to not have my 230s refinished and go for some aftermarket 18's and new tires, but c'est la vie.

This helped me out a lot. I recently purchases new tires, and one of my tpms valve stems was corroded and needed to be replaced. Well the tire shop ordered a new one from Reeves Bmw and the one that was sent was too short. We explained the situation and Reeves representative tried to tell me I have aftermarket wheels because the one sent should work. I replied sir I have style 230 wheels, 19inch that’ was available with sport package. Long story short I searched this forum, and found this thread. I order the part number 36136775937, so hopefully this solves my problems.
