Unhappy RIP KP.....you were a legend

I'm in total shock. Got home from work and the news was on the TV in the background, i wasn't paying any attention until i heard the words..........'another British soldier has been killed in Afghanistan' i stopped and watched as a photo of friend i have known and served with for over 10 years appeared on the screen -Cpl Jamie 'KP' Kirkpatrick.

KP was quite honestly one of the most loyal, humerous and inspiring people you could ever meet. A big man with an even bigger heart, one of those people that nobody could find a bad word to say about.

I remember vividly at the end of a 2 month Exercise in Kenya a few years ago we were waiting to find out what was planned for us on our R&R (rest and recuperation) we had a bet on who could get the best tan by the end of the week even though we didn't know what we would be doing. I ended up getting watersports on a beach by the Indian Ocean and much to KP's disgust he had to climb up Mount Kenya (which still had snow on the top!)
He still got a better tan than me although i never admitted it!

RIP Jamie, you were one of the very best.

Thanks - my thoughts are for his wife and his young daughter who will grow up without a father.

The loss of any service member is a tragic event, regardless of branch or country.

As a retired U.S. Navy service member and brother in arms who has deployed to Iraq, I wish to offer my condolences at the loss of your friend.

I salute him for his outstanding service and mourn his ultimate sacrifice.

Thank you for you kind words. Both of our countries are taking a large % of the burden in comparison to a lot of other nations.

Oh man, that's very sad. I've never lost a friend, so really cannot imagine what you must be feeling right now.

Sorry for your loss.

Terrible news. Sincerest condolences from all of us on E90post

And as importantly, thank you to all of you who have dedicated your lives to serving and protecting us mere mortal citizens. Regardless of whether it is right or not for you to be in zones of conflict at the moment, the sacrifices that people like yourself and your friend have made should be recognised and appreciated by all.

That's the worst bit. Hopefully they have some tiny consolation in knowing that those guys have the utmost respect from the rest of us, but it's such a waste of life. Didn't even know him but I feel so gutted for you and his family..

Please accept my sincerest condolences.

I have lost quite few friends in the last few years and it is heartbreaking to see children lose a parent and a wife a husband.

Just been watching the news and saw this latest story. My mate, who was my best man at my wedding, has done 3 tours over there and I always stop, sit-up & listen out for his name (even though he's now in Bristol!!!).

Terrible loss, all of them, and yes it always seems to strike home harder when there are young children left at home.

Feel for you mate, you have my sympathy. I have 3 mates who are constantly rotating in and out of Stan (1 in RAF, 1 in RM and the other is an Ammo Tech in RLC), and everytime they announce another KIA I wait for the bad news. Touch wood they've been lucky so far and the closest I've been to your situation was when John Macs' son died, not a friend, but I had met him - even then it hit home!

I don't know what branch you're in, and don't need to, but you and all our lads and lasses are doing a fantastic job and you all have my upmost respect.

Awful news - it makes my heart wrench every time you watch a procession through the streets, bringing the bodies home to lay to rest.

The families must go through hell whilst their loved ones are serving in places like Afghanistan, and to hear yet another tragic loss has occured is becoming all too common.

One loss of life is one too many, can only see this war dragging on for many more years, unless something MAJOR is done, or we pull out.
