This is not from my car, but actually from ADHD's old 325i. CreativeAutoworks was supposed to be working on a flash upgrade for the 328i, and it was supposed to net somewhere in the ~15 HP range for around $600 if I remember right. I started asking them about it back in October--but these guys did not get back to me, nor did they ever tell me that this was from a 325, not a 328--always felt a bit shady to me, but there is not a lot of interest in upgrading the 328's capability. Most people just say to buy a 335.

BTW--a simple would have found you this thread rather easily....

We just did the ecu upgrade from a 325 to a 330. The 328 is a lot newer which is why we have not been able to do that. I am sorry you feel that way about your shop, hopefully we can change the way you feel?

I am probably going to dyno my 328xi. I'm paranoid with all the SULEV chatter and I want to know how bad it really is.

Can they even dyno AWD cars?

I'm not sure it has anything to do with how I feel--my dad and I both contacted (via phone, email, AND PM on this forum) about an ecu flash--we were given different answers every time. Hell at the beginning, someone we talked to over the phone was claiming that 40+ HP gains were obtainable. You are actually the first person associated with Creative to act like your company gave a shit. Regardless of whether the engine is newer or not (the 328 has actually been around since 1999 on the E46) the practice of giving out information that cannot be trusted has more or less soured my taste to a ~$600 mod.

some one on e90fanatics said he dynod his 328 but i dont believe it because it was putting down numbers a little high even for a 330, i believe it was in the 215 range after he put on an intake which is just a little to high for me to believe. but hopefully someone can get on it and dyno one

i have absolutely no personal experience...but I thought you have to use a special 4wd dyno...i.e. with two rollers for both axles which more rare. most dynos are setup only for 2wd cars with only one roller for the drive wheels. (as far as i know, there isn't any 4wd dynos in the city where i live).

i have also heard that when audi owners dyno on the 4wd dynos, they had to pull out fuses to disable some sensors????

ya you can disable power to the front wheels and dyno on a regular dyno, as far as i know no one has done it with a e9x but i know other car groups do it regularly

The numbers you were given at that time were the numbers that we had recieved from the manufacuter, EVOtech. We had no reason to doubt the info we had recieved. We quickly learned that we had been given bad information. This is why we personally dyno all new software that we recieve. We are in the process of confirming the 335 software as of now with our own sets of dyno runs. I am sorry you feel that way about us.

What does 335 software confirmation have to do with this discussion?

All I am saying is that it might be a better practice to verify those kind of numbers BEFORE passing them along to potential customers, only to have discrepencies arise later. Thus, dynoing the software before telling people that those gains were possible might be more efficient in the future.

Umm the 1999 328 E46 does not have the same engine as the 2007 328.

The E46 328 is an M52. The E90 328 is an N52, just like the US 325 and 330.

I realize that they are not the same engines--my point was only that they were similar, nothing further.

there is nothing similar about them. not the intake, not the exhaust, not the bore, not the internals, not the software, not the timing, not the head, etc. Oh wait, they are both inline sixes, I guess there is something.

They also both use gasoline/petrol.

Cheers,

Chuck

This is something we learned the hard way unfortunately. We assumed we could trust the numbers from EVOtech since they usually are pretty accurate. However, from now on all HP and TQ claims will be dyno'd and verified before claims are made. Also regarding the questions that you asked/called about, can you PM me your question ? I will give you the best solid answer I can get.
